What shopping cart software do you recommend for a mainstream site?

A family friend wants me to help him with his online store, and I know 0 about building stores, but his site really sucks.
He doesnt have a shopping cart, just a link to email him to tell him what you want to buy

So I need to redo his site and install a shopping cart.
I was looking at Yahoo shops http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/ecommerce/
and Godaddy shopping carts: http://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/ecomme...rt.asp?ci=9042

anyone used either of them, or can recommend something else?
He's on a small tight budget.

thanks

LiteCommerce http://www.litecommerce.com/
This is a good cart that is easy to configure and manage.

thanks a lot.
Anyone here used yahoo small business commerce before?
I think the site needs to be completely redone and Im thinking that a store template with payment processing built in might be the way to go

You can try something like Foxycart (http://foxycart.com). It's really not hard to plugin; just include their external javascript and create proper product codes on the main site, and everything else is handled. Used it on a couple of projects for quick and easy integration.

PrestaShop should be easy enough.

I use Magento : http://www.magentocommerce.com/

although it isn't as easy to setup and use as some systems it is by far the best free eCommerce system I have found.

Magento is the new competitor of oscommerce, and they are getting bigger than oscommerce.

I use cs-cart on my back issue hobby site:
http://backissues.gatefold.com/

LOTS of features (MySQL and php) and a good forum for problems.

I do like magento too.

I liked using sunshop, about 150 products on the store I set up, good seo.

I will throw in another vote for Magento, been messing around with it a bit lately on a few sites. Very feature rich.

Nothing comes close to Magento. There's no debate.
