A pet having surgery is almost as bad as human family

My pug is having surgery on her eye today. Even though I know she will most likely be fine, I am still hating being here waiting for 'the call' from the vet. Amazing how important animals come to our family lives, isn't it?

i used to think that until I had my daughter, I dont think it even compares now.

Yep they become part of the family, When our dog got attacked by another dog, it was the same feeling wondering if he will be ok

I am sure if I have a kid I will feel the same but I still can't see myself not worrying about my pets as well.

Its almost worse when a pet is getting worked on because they don't understand its for their own good - very sad. Hope it goes well for your little guy.

I understand. We don't have any kids, just our fur balls. The chihuahua has had to have surgery on his elbow in the past and it was a very stressful and traumatic exp due to some errors made on account of his tiny size.

Don't let the cuteness fool you.. the black one eats poop!

Just brought her home. She is still not fully with it but otherwise okay. Lots of cuddling in on the cards tonight, I think.

I feel ya. My mini pincher went trough a procedure where the vet had to scrape part of his skin till it bled. You can explain to humans that it is for their own good but I felt like the doggy was looking at me like I betrayed him. I allowed somebody to hurt him and I did not even bark at the vet or bite him. No I was holding my dog while the vet was doing it.
That felt bad....:(

I don't really know what he is to be honest, he's a rescue mutt. I would bank on daschund for sure, but everything else is up in the air. The rescue told me he was half weiner and half chi, so that's usually what I tell people but I don't know. He's on the small side so they could be right (he looks big next to the chi, Chavez is only 3.5 lbs), but he's so crazy I think there's gotta be some terrier in there. Seriously, some days it's like he's completely insaine.

A better pic of him-

No one said anything about "not worrying" just saying that I used to think the same, but after having to watch my daughter spend a night in the newborn ICU and watch her get stuck with needles, and hear her screaming while I hold her while the doctor takes blood from her while she is 2 weeks old, there is no comparison to pets and children in my mind anymore.

Ive taken alot of pets to the vet, but it is NOTHING like sitting in hospital waiting for your child to come out of ICU, its as simple as that.

just the sounds alone of her crying while the doctors jab needles in her makes the two incomparable from my experience. My cat or dog never made noise like that and it exasperates the entire anxiety surropunding the event.

Pets are family, my dog had surgery to remove a big tumor from her neck. She recovered fine and lived another 6 years. :)
