If you're talking video format...there is a free encoder called Handbrake. http://handbrake.fr/
I sat here with Adobe Premiere CS4 Pro and Main Concept Plugins and couldn't make a vid that would work on most mobile phones to save my life.
I grabbed that handbrake encoder 2 days ago and quickly started encoding vids that work on my Droid, my Iphone, and my Blackberry (that's all I've tested personally so far)
And Handbrake works SUPER fast. About 3 times faster than Adobe Media Encoder.
I was going nuts trying to get the proper codecs etc., etc. But just a couple of clicks on Handbrake and I had H264 mp4 vids for mobile...quickly, easily, and it was free.
Edit: One caveat...the Android OS doesn't relay the fact that you are logged in to a password protected area to the video player in it's browser. So we are having to script up a "timed url" for the vid to enable it to be played on a Droid phone. That is an issue that will affect anybody. That problem doesn't exist in the IPhone as it seems to use Quicktime to view the vids. Drove me nuts with the Droid because I was able to play the vids I made just fine in an uprotected area...but the second I put them in the members area, I would log in then try to play the vid and get a "Sorry this video cannot be played" message. Kept thinking there was something wrong with my encoding. But after downloading the Droid OS on a virtual box and testing it, we discovered the real culprit and came up with the fix.
