RIP Charlie Wilson

I loved "Charlie Wilson's War" especially the CIA guy Gust Avrakotos, played by Phillip Seymore Hoffman.
Wilson was a legendary boozer, hence the moniker "Good Time Charlie."
He was saddened after all he had done to see the state that Afghanistan has fallen into today.

Ex-Texas Rep. Charlie Wilson, who helped arm Afghans during war against Soviets, dies at 76

DALLAS (Associated Press) --
The late Rep. Charlie Wilson worked tenaciously to funnel millions of dollars in weapons to Afghan rebels who fought off the Soviet Union, only to watch Afghanistan plunge into chaos and eventually harbor al-Qaida terrorists.

The course of events greatly saddened the rakish Texan, who died at a Texas hospital Wednesday at age 76, and believed it could have been avoided had the U.S. committed to rebuilding Afghanistan years ago

RIP Charlie

They tend to conceal that kind of information in books, usually years before the movie comes out :1orglaugh

A cool quote from his book

"The girls had cocaine, and the music was loud. It was total happiness. And both of them had ten long, red fingernails with an endless supply of beautiful white powder....The feds spent a million bucks trying to figure out whether, when those fingernails passed under my nose, did I inhale or exhale, and I ain't telling..."

I think it's great the movie was made when he was still alive to see it and be recognized for his efforts. Rest In Peace, Charlie Wilson. Your bichiz will be miss you.

I saw the movie last year when it came out during the holidays because nothing else was out at the time... I remember leaving with wow, it was a good movie, better than expected.

RIP :2 cents:
