I just found out why My adsence account was disabled

It was not because of click fraud it was because I have a link on one of my mainstream sites to a website which sells wooden, samarai sword and other martial art swords

According to them its breaking thier Weapons TOS

"Weapon-related content

Google ads are not permitted to appear on sites that sell, facilitate or advocate the sales of weapons and weapon accessories. This includes but is not limited to the sales of ammunition, gun parts, hardware, pistols, rifles, BB guns, sporting guns, air guns, blow guns, and stun guns. This policy also prohibits the placement of ads on sites which sell explosives, including fireworks.

However, publishers are permitted to place Google ads on sites which discuss the sport of hunting. Also, Google ads may be placed on sites which sell paintball and airsoft guns. In the case of airsoft guns, U.S. law requires sites to have a disclaimer stating that airsoft guns are required to have the top of the barrel (.25") permanently colored in blaze orange."

I did not even know this was breaking thier TOS :(

google penalizes the very sites that they want to promote... it is called monopolizing the market

AmeliaG 02-13-2010 04:08 PM

Wow, I had no idea they even had that rule. Do you have a good sword sponsor? I'll sign up under your ref link for that.

halfpint 02-13-2010 04:13 PM

I guess its this little bit of text "This includes but is not limited to" which they can use as they see fit

So it's OK to promote hunting, but those people who collect fake samurai swords... You really have to watch out for them! Haha. Love the "logic."

The website sells both fake and real swords as well as other martial art weapons like throwing knives, daggers ect so I guess thats what caused the problem for them

Agent 488 02-13-2010 05:30 PM

logic would dictate hackers.

woj 02-13-2010 10:20 PM

so your account got actually canceled for that? I thought you usually get a warning for stuff like that..

LiveDose 02-13-2010 10:44 PM

When you dominate the net you can do what you want no matter how dumb.

I used to have a roommate that was suicidal. We called 911 once for his own protection. He had his car packed with his stuff and was running away to be at one with nature for a month and then end his life.

In his car he had a beautiful ornate sword that he had made. The cops treated him as if he had a 9 MM.

Anyway, people really freak out over swords for some reason...

born2blog 02-13-2010 10:57 PM

have you tried contacting Google? They are usually pretty good about that sort of thing if you explain it was just an accident or you were unaware, I'm sure they would reactivate your account

marketsmart 02-13-2010 11:22 PM

How do you contact Google? Or rather, how do you get anyone to respond?

Could try calling them... and if you reach someone they will investigate and probably send you an email in a few days telling you you're still banned.

Google makes rules up one day, bans people the next. They will step on the wrong toes one day.

When your account gets disabled and you try and log in to your account it gives you a link to a help page which allows you to send them messages It also has another link to the adsense forum with lets you contact them as well

I got no warning and they did not actually say why they had disabled the account I only found out after contacting them and getting a reply back

I am not gonna bother using them again now. Its the way they go about disabling the account that pissed me off. If they had sent me an email saying what the problem was in the first place before disabling the account I wouldent have minded and would have sorted it out. But in two words... FUCK EM

Adult Media 02-14-2010 06:40 AM

We had an advertiser account (using Adwords) that was selling an adult related service. They suspended the account saying that the service was not permitted within their rules. We explained that their was over 10 other providers offering the same type of service to which they replied, please provide us with details of them.

I didn`t want to list URL`s of such providers as I didn`t particularly want their accounts suspended so I just listed one of the keyword terms and they could see themself that they had paying advertisers offering the same service using the same terms as us.

That however was not good enough for them as they wanted specifics. Ridiculous.

We didn`t contact them anymore.

You think how many accounts they have actually suspended and how much money they keep They are no better than thieves and If they dont like something on a site which is a grey area they just ban the account anyway Then I see all thier ads on file sharing sites ..Google a stand up company ..Im sure

Domain Broker 02-14-2010 08:50 AM

Yeah man, you got to be Walt Disney to keep from getting on the wrong side of adsense.

Don't invest too much in building sites for adsense, too much can go wrong!

I went for months with no ads appearing on my sites until I checked into it.
I had forgotten to do one of the steps for the "new" validation process or something.
I had my account long before that stuff was needed and I must have missed an email
telling me to do something about it.

you can sneeze wrong and break their terms, they have to be one of the most anal, hardest to work with sites out there. For adwords and adsense. Don't even think about saying " college girls" because you can't use the word "girl" under any circumstances. :upsidedow

It's because they are the big dog right now, and everyone is coming to them so they can get away with it. Even though it is shitty business. But nothing lasts for ever, one day they will be ousted by another search engine, and then google might actually start caring becausing they will need the business, by then i hope it is too late and they sink.

fatfoo 02-14-2010 09:41 AM

Swords would be weapons, yes.

I used to be all for google but I am very quickly disliking them more and more and it would be nice to see a something else which could compete with it, but I dont think thats gonna happen for a long time yet

Sarah_Jayne 02-15-2010 05:17 AM

I had a site removed (but not my account disabled) for having a write up about a few serial killers because it violated their violence ToS. Lesson learned..keep it safe.

I have had email responces from them but I have now asked them to cancel my account. After the way they just go about disabling the account without any warning and not actually telling you the reason until you send them 3-4 emails, I dont trust them anymore. They could do the same thing for another reason a year on..
