Movie Galleries/bandwith = Worth it!??
 

Hey , anybody tried movie galleries with success...?

5 movies... x 2mb = 10mb x 30 000 visitors...

300 gigs.... = couple of hundreads depending on where you're hosted...

??

No, I don't think its worth it.

We do over 100k a day in traffic and
get very little joins from them.

No it's not worth it.......Your already giving the horny surfer free movies, why would he pay for more. I'll agree a few will, but not enough to cover the costs.

If you know what you are doing, yep.

It was easier the past few years, now it is a tad more competitive as people are figuring out how to do movie galleries. Also because there are more doing it, MGP's have become more selective.

Additionally, you have to fight people using AOL accounts and other shit for hosting. Since the MGP owners in general do not care nothing is changing.

Also because of this, req's have went from allowing smaller clips to wanting 1meg+ clips * 3+ clips. And most of your competition using AOL(etc) hosting is submitting 10 megs+ of clips for free.

Given all that, if you know what you are doing and get b/w cheap enough, you can make a lot of money. If you are not getting any/many signups the first thing to look at is what are you promoting. If you are promoting a picture rich site or very overused sponsor in the sector, there you go.

are u insane?
use 3 movies from 1meg or 6 from 500kb or so.
And surfers don't download all movies.
If you do 3 movies of one meg and have 100K visitors you can count on about 100 to 150gigs of bandwidth.

THERE IS NO MONEY IN MOVIES!

I do movie galleries on unmetered bandwidth Cogent etc.

Under these curcumstances it does pay. Plus there are some tricks you can use via OLE and movie files.

m0rph3us would/do you promote a movie archive with pic galleries? Do you think that this brings more signups then mgps?

well... I figure people looking for pics won't be too happy in a members area full of movies.
