can someone debug this icq error?

I have 2 computers that I have tried to install ICQ on and always fails.

I took 1 of the computers home, off a network, and tried to install ICQ on it.

Just can't install it. Here is the error message. Anyone have any ideas?

thank you...

can't figure this out, very frustrating and i've tried several times over the months. Now I need to get this loaded and can't. I've googled install problems and come up with nothing, there is no real contact for tech help, disabled firewall with no luck

don't know

Try seeing if InstallShield needs an update. Also, from my research, you may try renaming the InstallShield Folder, and go into your add/remove programs and see if ICQ got itself into there.

One more thing to try is to download ccleaner and clean the shit out of your system, the registry and everything (I use it all the time) and then try reinstalling after you clear your FF cache, etc.

I downloaded ccleaner and ran it.

Tried to download and install again and no luck. Not sure about installshield... not even sure if I have that on my computer

No not yet. Last night was the longest I ever spent trying to install it but still no luck. I cleaned registry, tried install and usually the first time it just wouldn't do anything when trying to run. Then the second would give the same error message.

This is not just one computer, 2 computers have this same problem.

I think ICQ2go from Overload's comment may be the way to go.

Va2k 02-17-2010 08:38 AM

go and uninstall any thing that is related in icq goto your programs folder and see if you see anything from icq delete it run ccleaner you should be able ot install then. Also when you run ccleaner do the scan for issues with the reg.

Until you can get it fixed use Pidgin (http://pidgin.im) :thumbsup

I'd try upgrading InstallShield or moving to Linux and Kopete :P

I tried recommending upgrading or reinstalling installshield. he has a bug in it, and I'll bet you he is using vista.

EDIT: No actually it looks like a fresh installed windows XP. Was this a copy off of a burnt CD?

I never had a cd and installed this. Must have just come with XP. I have tried googling this and can't find a way to patch this up, reinstall, etc. Most results in google take me to an installshield that costs money, require a mile long form to fill out. I don't even want this program on my computer.

I tried recommendations on this link...

http://kb.flexerasoftware.com/selfse...8322&sliceId=1

Didn't work.

I tried deleting the "professional" folder out because I heard that has caused problems... no luck.

Nothing in the registry I see with ICQ. This has happened to two identical computers purchased at the same time. There almost 5 years old dell dimension 9100... something with the setup of these computers is blocking this install.

installshield if that is what is used to install most programs i have never had a problem with anything else... just icq
