Screw the drama - I went whale watching today (pics)

Last Sunday I took a ride to a place I had never been before. Not sure why I had never been or why I turned down that road when I did. When I was there a couple gray whales swam by while I was checking things out. Unfortunately, all I had with me was my p&s. I got one lucky shot, but you could not really tell if it was a whale or the Loch Ness Monster.

I went back today with my Canon Rebel and a tripod, but of course, no whales. There was lots of other activity going on though, so I took advantage of it.

I don't think we will catch that kind of action here. I was talking to a lady that said there were two humpbacks breaching earlier in the morning.

They get a lot of whales there, so I am sure I will catch some on my subsequent visits.

Whales on computer screens is all we have. No, we are not idiots.

Give us time, we will see real whales face-to-face, too.

Those have to be the best whale pics I have ever seen.

Thank God you didn't title this thread: "California coast line and birds" I might have slipped right past it and missed these awesome whale pics. :thumbsup

Let me know when you are down for a Channels Islands cruise and Beth and I will set it up... whale's even set aside, it's one of our absolute favorite local cruises to shoot off of.
