Share tethered android phone with ps3
Hey guys... I want to try to figure out how to share my internet connection that I have tethered to my computer from an android phone... with my ps3. any suggestions?
|
anybody?
|
You need to have a rooted phone and the app Android Wifi Tether. Which pretty much turns your phone into a Wifi hotspot.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/ I just tested this and it works. Not sure it'll work well when playing a game, but it does work. |
that's all u need!

Did you manage to get this to work? What phone do you have?

Cheap bastard.

go fuck yourself bronco67... if you want to pay the $600 that it takes to get satellite in my area, then be my guest honey.
No, I haven't messed wih this yet because I forgot to subscribe to the thread to get updates on the replies. Will mess with it tonight and see what I can come up with. I read somewhere that you might be able to hook a router to your computer and do internet connection sharing with your ethernet port, but I didn't feel like digging the router out. Does rooting the phone cause stability issues or security issues? And I have a HTC Hero. Fucking rocks. |
ETA Also, I've done the tests from speedtest.net and I get about 1.2mbps download... wonder if that would be enough for cod mw2

How does it take 600 to get a satellite into an area? Just curious |
1) My Credit Sucks
They want $500 for the equipment and installation fees before I can even sign an agreement with them. The sickest part about it is that not only do they force me to buy the equipment because I dont have a 750 credit score (sarcasm on the score), they want me to agree to sign my life away for 2 years in a contract. I'll do the cell phone, but what if we get DSL in 3 months out here... I am fucked. Again. 2) No other providers We have no other providers in the area. I worked on dial up internet for over a year before just getting my htc hero a couple weeks ago. |
Well fuck. I just wasted $24 on PDANet when all I had to do was root my phone. I am pissed now.
Rooting it was easy, now I am going to try playing on my ps3. |
PDANet sucks. If you bought it through the Android Market, you have 24 hours to "return" it for a refund.
|
My problem is that the shit freezes all the time on my computer so I lose my connection... and the really shitty part about this is that the IP changes like every 5 minutes it seems like... so if you're downloading something and your IP changes it throws off errors (with the ps3 at least)
Other than that, online gaming isnt bad, I played cod mw2 for most of the night. A little laggy here and there but nothing I am not used to, even with cable internet when I lived in the city playing socom 3 |
Nice to hear that you can actually manage to play a game using this.
|
Yeah, I'm gonna go play some more later. I installed a custom ROM which I do not like so I am restoring back to factory then will re-root the phone again, leaving the factory ROM on there (especially since they'[re coming out with a 2.1 system that is supposed to be even more streamlined and smooth in operation.)

oh, btw... if anyone here even plays call of duty modern warfare 2, my name on there is gigedygigedyyeah
Yeah :D |
