didn't see any thing that looks worse than the northride quake out here in cally to be honest... I was living in east hollywood at the time... lot's of buildings came down... big buildings... the 10 freeway collapsed... store fronts along ventura blvd looked just like the footage in the footage from chili as did the store fronts along east hollywood...

I am quite sure Chileans are in no way trying to compete with any past earthquakes. I was a high school student in the Bay Area during the 89' earthquake and I too can attest to awful destruction throughout the area.

Considering the magnitude of this earthquake, it appears, so far, that the death toll is relatively small.

They are interviewing president Michelle Bachelet right now!

Yup, I was here. That was really bad.
The 5/14 freeway overpass where the cop drove off.

That quake was bad.

Just spoke with my friend who lives in Chile. He told me his entire building was shaking for like 2 minutes. 7.0 earthquake according to him. He thought he was dead for sure.

He lives in Concepcion? Two minutes is a crap load of time. I remember the short earthquake here in S. California in the summer of 2008 and that felt way too long. It only lasted about 15 seconds though.
