My question would be...what use is a mobile phone blog?

I dont' mean that in a bad way. I'm just curious.

A freesite's job is to drive traffic. But if you are a mobile blog...how the heck do you get traffic to begin with? I would THINK people would have to deliberately go to your site. Which would seem strange for anyone to pick up a phone and think to themselves: "i need to go to a blog today"

I'm just curious as to what an average person's reasoning would be. Or even how they would be aware of the existence of such a "mobile blog" (the url itself...how are they aware of it?)

Unless you already have a very high traffic freesite with tons of bookmarked traffic, I'm not feeling this.

There are link lists, top lists, directories and all that for the mobile market too. Hell...I've seen a few mobile TGPs. There's plenty of different ways to get traffic to a mobile site.

I'm sure that people have made all those things...my question would be: How does the average user find those things?

Say a guy has an IPhone. And for some reason he decides to try and find a mobile tgp. First off...why would he? Second how would he?

Or he wants to find a mobile gay blog like the op has. Again why? The whole point of a blog or tgp is to HAVE traffic to push to a program. How does a mobile blog, started out fresh like this guy is doing...ever get traffic of any consequence?

Of course I can see established freesites (the hun for instance) that have large amounts of traffic online, getting some type ins to their mobile sites. But a blog?

What would be the purpose of this blog?

So far the main use I'm seeing mobile stats-wise with my own stuff is people going to a site they already know about from their PC or Mac and wanting to go there on their phone too.

So I would THINK that the first thing would be to establish a large presence non-mobile online. And then use a mobile site for your current bookmark traffic to visit when on their mobile device. That way you are effectively using YOUR mobile traffic.

I'm just ignorant on how a person would start a mobile blog from scratch and try to get traffic to it that could then be monetized.

I have a "mobile blog" It is all for the SE's mobile search, getting some decent terms and traffic at the moment.

I'm completely ignorant here. I have a droid phone. I go to google on it and I do a search for anything and it simply brings up the same results as it does on a regular browser. Pretty much the only time I see a mobile blog showing a good result is if I actually type "Mobile Porn Blog" in google. Are those the kind of keywords you're talking about?

I'm just curious, because while I can see making a porn site have a mobile version (claudia-marie.mobi is getting about 500 to 750 uniques a day), I'm not sure that I personally would want to read a blog on this tiny cell phone screen. What am I missing here?

Tell me more Nicky. What kind of traffic numbers are you seeing? And sales? Are you actually making any sales off of it? Thanks in advance for smartening me up on it.

So far with claudia-marie.mobi I see a lot of our members using it. But I have never seen an actual join from someone while on their phone. My theory is that when somebody is interested in the .mobi tour (a buddy shows it to them on their phone for instance), they then wait until they go home and get on their PC to actually join just because it's more comfortable to do so on a big keyboard and screen.

You are right on some things. Most of the traffic I see is for searches ending with "mobile" or "mobile porn" but one blog get's a couple of 100 uniques a day from google and over 70% is from mobile devices according to analytics. It is making sales, not big sales but you know the drill, grow It big or make 50 just like It.... What is good with the mobile blogs is that they use WP plugins to fit the phones and of course mobile sponsors are to be used.

This is probably true but when the mobi tour starts getting google traffic or affiliates can send to It etc, It will make sales from phones too.

Thanks for the insight Nicky. I guess we are sort of in a "wait" period with mobile as it grows more and expands it's capabilities.

Last time I checked you could search Google on your mobile... :2 cents: There's a lot of bored ass people out there sitting at a subway station, riding the bus, having lunch in the cafeteria, waiting for an appointment, or doing whatever. They are sitting there bored, and almost every one of them has a mobile device.

timoxxl2 03-30-2010 01:01 AM

is there a specific way to promote mobile sites (blogs)?
does google value mobile site links as much as ordinary?

does google differentiate between mobile sites and NON-mobile sites?

does google spider the net for mobile sites?

Lionel 03-30-2010 05:30 AM

Currently, Google makes no difference but it should do because there is the possibility of declare a mobile sitmap : http://www.google.com/support/webmas...n&answer=34627

You need to put yourself in the shoes of your mobile surfers, what will they be looking for?

Or more specifically, what exact terms will they be searching for?

A quick trip to your favorite keyword checking tool will reveal the kinds of mobile/cellphone/psp/iphone queries people have.

Also, when you buy a new mobile phone, what is the default search engine that it uses to search the web? When a search engine is comfortable that your site is optimized for their device (and what better way than to TELL THEM?!?!) you will appear in their SERPS.

Two reasons why it is time to have your own mobile sites:

1) A mobile customer on a regular porn site is a wasted customer. How many cellphone users are going to be signing up for a $29.99 recurring membership with 50MB movies to download. and pictures bigger than your desktop screen, let alone mobile screens...

2) The searches are there. You need to go out and do your research the same as you would for any kind of site.

Mobile is only growing. Sponsors with SMS billing are enabling you to reach traditional "shit traffic" countries because whilst they won't flop out their credit cards (and indeed whilst they may not even have credit cards) they are USED to paying on their mobiles and they really don't mind a dollar here, a dollar there for a great pair of tits in a hot movie.

Yes I am making money in mobile, SMS and credit cards.

/begin plug/

Please see my sig. I had so many questions about mobile sites that I put all my infos (collected myself over 12 months of developing my mobile traffic) in my user guide and tidied up my mobile themes into a simple mobile wordpress theme. People have said that the cost is worth it for the user guide itself.

It DOES NOT look like wordpress on the outside, so whilst you can easily use it as a blog, you can use it as a hub/portal/picpages style whatever you want.

Use this to filter your existing mobile traffic and to start growing your own in the serps etc.

/end plug/

Max_PuZcash 03-30-2010 08:21 AM

so if you redirect mobile traffic from domain.com to mobi.domain.com google doesn't mind this redirect? How would I have to recirect, what would be best?

In my experience:

A) Google doesn't mind at all, in fact a mobile site is much more useful for mobile surfers on price-per-megabyte packages and limited screen sizes

B) Best way to redirect is to use an htaccess script to redirect user agents of mobile browsers

timoxxl2 03-31-2010 08:05 AM

any gay mobile programs you can recommend?

Robbie 03-31-2010 04:59 PM

Is it me, or do a couple of the guys posting on here seem to be sort of like a couple of post bots? I don't want to mention any names...but if you look at their sigwhoring for vidz you may have a clue as to whom I'm talking about lol

We're running a mobile affiliation so the purpose is to monetize the mobile customer going to a regular porn site.

Users are spending money if you're giving them the right content, the right billing and the m.thesitethey'relookingfor.com.

Billing is an issue where operators are too prude for billing porn. European market is providing a direct operators billing through a "I WANT TO PAY ON MY PHONE BILL" link. Conversion is huge there!

If American operators are understanding that sometimes everybody 'll be VERY happy.
