LOS ANGELES ? Peter Graves, the tall, stalwart actor likely best known for his portrayal of Jim Phelps, leader of a gang of special agents who battled evil conspirators in the long-running television series "Mission: Impossible," died Sunday.
Graves died of an apparent heart attack outside his Los Angeles home, publicist Sandy Brokaw said. He would have been 84 this week.

"Graves had just returned from brunch with his wife and kids and collapsed before he made it into the house, Brokaw said. One of his daughters administered CPR but was unable to revive him. Graves' family doctor visited the house and believed he had a heart attack, Brokaw said."

Strange, they called the family DR. instead of 911.

that's the way my grandfather went and while it's sad it sure beats the other ways most people go - 83 years old, out to brunch with the family and a quick heart attack. only better way i can think of is dying peacefully in your sleep at an old age.

I'm really sorry to hear that. Can you believe that his older brother, marshall Matt Dillon, is still alive, pushing 90? And still in good shape last time I saw him. James Arness is the only one of the old Gunsmoke show still alive, except for Newley. Did you know that Miss Kitty died of aids at 61? That freaked me out when I heard about it. Her husband gave her aids in the 80s and back then, if you got aids, you died. And she died. I still love Gunsmoke.
