What do you tell your friends you do for a living?
 

I've been in the adult biz since 1995, and I was just wondering what you guys tell your friends what you do for a living? Personally, my close friends and family know what I do, but I don't tell everyone I meet.

Career disclosure has always been a funny topic among others that have been in the biz for years. Anyhow, would enjoy hearing comments from others on this sometimes sensitive topic...I'm sure we've all been there!

Production....

My close friends, Adult production. I truly dont give a shit what people actually think though even if they did know.

simple.. i tell this to everyone, including strangers, etc

"I own an affiliate marketing company, and we promote products for other companies"

Then they go like what type of products, etc..

"well, weight loss, debt services, etc"

then they go like how do u promote it..

"i say well media buys, etc"

then they shut up cuz they dont know what media buys are.. haha

sure, I've used that one because it's true. I have a conservative family, and family friends, its been interesting over the years I must say

I tell them I get paid to watch porn.

When I was in the strip club industry I would either tell people I ran night clubs or I was in the nightlife industry. Or I told people I babysat for a bunch of drunk half naked drama queens. :(

Now I have own a delivery company so I can just use that but people that know me know I am a content shooter as well. I just leave that out of normal conversation.

This sort of thing worked for me many times, but every once in a while you get a smart-ass who knows and he gives you that smile...that look like... dude I know what you do, you make too much money, it has to be porn! LOL

For those that I don't want to know, I have a few mainstream sites for cover.

one guy kept bugging me, so i told him exactly this and he shut up:

Man, my company signs up to networks and we find verticals that are converting well, then we push traffic to them and make sure it has a high EPC and good enough ROI.. most of all we gotta make sure our EPC is higher than our CPC, u know cause we don't wanna go negative..

I make websites and stuff.

All this is making me think what I told my parents when they first asked me what I do? It was an intense moment.

I am in media sales and service provision :D

This is funny but true! It didn't work with my parents though, they know I was into something "different" LOL

I more or less used to do the same thing. Now I have another business as well and I just tell them about that :)

Internet marketing.

web development.. you know the stuff that goes on in the background.

and that usually stops people asking to see it.

I tell them I'm a gay rent-boy, because I'm too embarrassed to tell them I'm an adult webmaster...

everyone knows exactly what I do for a living.. family, friends etc.. I have nothing to hide.

web designer, occasionally work with "models"

I tell them that I am an independent contractor for the government out of Langley Virginia.

The others know I am an advisor to train personnel at the academy in Quantico, Virginia.

I simply tell them I'm a web developer, which is true :)

Internet marketing. Keeps things simple. They get bored real fast and never ask me again.

I usually blab on about SEO, wordpress, HTML coding, Web optimization, content delivery methods and marketing... Blah, blah, blah

Until I see that they wish they hadn't asked.

How did you break the news to your parents?

That worked for me for a while until people wanted to see my work. We built a few g-rated sites to show the peanut gallery.

Best line I ever heard was, "I help people jerk off for a living!"

My real friends know. I couldn't have them be friends and not have them know. Associates and family get the 'internet marketing' answer.

I say..."online media" and once they asked more, I just say that in a gist.."I am like Avon and I look for people to peddle my wares!"

"I work on the Internet... "what" ... well I do stuff ..." usually I talk so less about it that makes them dizzy. Since videochat is so popular in my country, not many people ask more... I don`t care what they think as long as they don`t ask me or buzz me with this.

I tell them "I sell drugs".... Then they look at me all disgusted and i say "Oh no, no I am just kidding with you... Adult entertainment on the internet". Then they say "oh wow, ok well that is not so bad then..."

LOL!

It really depends on the person. Everyone of my family members and close friends knows, only time I give someone the run around is if its a super religious person. Then I just say I'm a web developer / internet marketing. Usually they leave it alone at that point.

my wife and 1 sister know.... for the rest i just tell them i am a blogger :)
