dirtymind 03-16-2010 04:13 AM

Jack Sparrow 03-16-2010 04:14 AM

2012 is the day we die.

TidalWave 03-16-2010 04:16 AM

surprised it was even a 4.4... it felt very weak in woodland hills

Meeper 03-16-2010 04:19 AM

Not even a 5.0, nothing to be alarmed about ;)

AaliyahLove 03-16-2010 10:19 AM

it woke me up around 4:05am I sat straight up in bed. look over at my dog and he's sleeping thru it. he's always oblivious to earthquakes surprisingly!

Sly 03-16-2010 10:22 AM

In San Diego every now and then we would feel one. Nothing big. The little ones are cool I think LOL. I'm sure a big one could be quite scary though.

JP-pornshooter 03-16-2010 10:24 AM

was strong enuf to wake me up..

marcop 03-16-2010 10:25 AM

I'm in Santa Monica, and I slept through it.

BradM 03-16-2010 10:32 AM

OMG everyone send us money and aid quick

Tanker 03-16-2010 10:34 AM

It woke me up, but to be honest I had no idea why I woke up at that hour until I got into work and saw the chatter on FB about it.

My cat on the other hand was resting comfortably in bed throughout the quake.

Joshua G 03-16-2010 10:51 AM

didn't feel it here in NY.

baddog 03-16-2010 10:51 AM

It did not wake goodgirl, me or Buddy. If Buddy doesn't notice then it is a non-issue.

seeric 03-16-2010 10:55 AM

i did not feel it in malibu area.

Jeff R 03-16-2010 11:02 AM

slept right through it in Northridge

Mr Cheeks 03-16-2010 11:05 AM

felt that crap around 4am. jumped up and sat up straight in bed. wasn't even sure about the next move from there :(

closer 03-16-2010 11:14 AM

How does a 4.4 feel then? I mean, is everything falling from the closets or is it just a mild shaking?

digitaldivas 03-16-2010 11:18 AM

didn't they close the 5 freeway for a bit because it cracked or something?

CDSmith 03-16-2010 11:19 AM

This reminds me, I haven't had shake 'n bake chicken in a while.

It is like having a big truck drive in front of your house.

Ok, then its not all that big indeed, can imagine the doggie sleeping through it :1orglaugh

Just for my info, is there a special "quake insurance" available in case its a 9er or so? Or are you then just fucked?

michael.kickass 03-16-2010 11:26 AM

It's the calm before the storm. :)

think it all depends where you are relative to the epic center
as i understand an earthquake spawns waves similar to those when you throw a stone into a lake, in the spots where the waves surface there is a greater movement and damages.
a 4.4 doesnt last very long, perhaps 10 seconds, it jolted my house initially and then rolled a few times, kinda feel like you are on a houseboat for a short instant except you hear the rumbling, doors and cabinets shake, lamps and hanging plants sway a little.
not a big deal, however there is always the thought it could be just the initial shaker and the big one is following..

There is quake insurance but since the Northridge earthquake the policies suck. High deductibles and not the best on replacement costs. If I'm correct there is also usually a moratorium of new policies being written following recent seismic activity

Yes there is, but it is pretty expensive, all things considered. I learned after the Sylmar Quake that the best way to do it is skip the insurance because if it is that bad it will be declared a disaster zone and very low interest loans are available. You end up with a better home. :2 cents:

yeah it was perhaps only 2-3 seconds come to think of it..
middle of the night and the fact that it feels like time stands still when the quake is happening probably biased my judgment of time...

Yeah, 10 seconds would be forever.

pretty much. or sometimes a slight feeling like you're on a boat in some mild waves if it's a roller.

The Good Friday Earthquake was originally recorded between 8.4 and 8.6 on the Richter Scale and later upgraded to a magnitude of 9.2.
