So, Does Anyone Agree That It's Not The Democrats Or Republicans Fault?

its congress as a whole?

both sides are spending more time bashing the others side than actually working together to solve some of the country's problems..

meanwhile, the corruption has become so rampant that the only ones not feeling the economy are those in congress....

i wish the people of this country could, for once, put their political differences aside and clean house...

its time for new blood with new ideas..

how much worse could it be than what we have now?

agreed..

Agreed.

Funny how this thread was almost an hour old before I got here and there was only one response.

Everyone would rather contribute to 10 page threads blaming Obama/Reid/Pelosi/Republicans for all of our problems.

all crooks and fools.

Perhaps we should go back to the old days when it was really "public service" and not self enrichment. You sacrificed to go into government, you received no pay check, no health insurance, no benefits, no pension, no bribes, and you actually had to neglect your previous business or profession for a while. It was truly a sacrifice and public service. Much different than todays self enrichment scheme where you can enter politics on a local level earning 25K a year and leave the US Congress or Senate a multi millionaire less than 15 years later!

Man I miss the 50's.

What cracks me up is all these people who spend so much energy bashing Obama or bashing Bush. Sending out emails, making videos, going to protests, etc.

If all those people stood up and demanded that all political campaigns be publicly funded and that all paid lobbying be banned, they could solve virtually every problem within our government.

It truly is as simple as that.

But everybody would rather have a "bad guy" to point at and half the politicians at any given time are more than happy to fan those flames.

Trust me, take the money out and suddenly politicians will start making decisions that make sense. The reason political decisions look so stupid to us on the outside is because we don't see the money deals. If we saw the money trails, everything that politicians do would make perfect sense.

Vote them ALL out and impose strict term limits......

Tom_PM 03-22-2010 08:33 AM

Said many times, vote out all incumbents. Enough of these assumed life-long appointments. If you have a long-term "career" politician on your ballot, vote them out!

And for fucks sakes, dont EVER vote based on party. It's retarded, and who the hell do you think deserves your loyalty based on a letter on their chest anyway? Christ.

Lobbyists who know all the tricks and a newbie congress is not exactly a perfect match either. They all need to be turned over early and often.

It is time to repeal the 17th amendment. We need our state legislature to pick our congressmen and senators. That way we can withdraw them quickly if they are not working for their states cause.

There are no more checks and balances.

nation-x 03-22-2010 09:27 AM

Why not just go back to being a Democracy and forget about non-representative government period... when people can tell outright lies and get away with it coupled with millions of dollars to promote that lie... we no longer have representative government... we have a propaganda government.

Great question, but the answers did not go the way I thought they would.

I was thinking more along the lines of the public giving too much credit / blame to the politicians / bankers / etc while ignoring, en masse, their own responsibility for the situation we find ourselves in.

Yes, we had easy money / credit. Yes, we arguably had lack of regulation where it was needed and over regulation where it wasn't. BUT, no one forced anyone to leverage themselves. Bubbles are created by the masses. We had a record credit expansion. These things happen and when they are big enough the bursting is very painful.

Optimism runs away on the way up and pessimism on the way down.

Instead of looking in the mirror, the masses look elsewhere.

I'm like most in thinking there needs to be a change
But it's funny how everyone bashes the Tea Party movement for trying to do just that, change things. Weather you agree with them or not. They are trying to do something. They want smaller government, they want some fiscal responsibility and they want to be heard. I for one hope they continue to grow and they keep to what started them and not be some parties bitch
