honest bandwidth prices?

I run a site that has about 6000 unique visitors per day and that needs about 3000-4000 GB bandwidth per month, the site contains mainly pictures and some video clips (5-20 MB).

There are shared or semi-dedicated hosting plans that promise 3000, 4000 or 5000 GB bandwidth for a relatively small price. But then they also offer dedicated hosting plans that are more expensive and even offer less bandwidth sometimes.

E.g. Nakedhosting offers a semi plan with 5000 GB bandwidth for only $60 or
Pathservers offers a shared plan with 3200/6400 GB bandwidth for $75/125.

Would that really match my needs? Do these plans really offer the promised bandwidth?

I can vouch for phatservers. Great service and the shared ones are pretty good. BW is no issue.

one more question about the Phatservers plan:

they offer a shared hosting plan with 6400 GB bandwidth and 8 users per server
but it is only a 100 mbps port.

that is impossible, 1 mbps is about max. 200 GB/month in real life, so that 100 mbps are about 20,000 GB, but 8 users with max. 6400 GB would need max. 50,000 GB.

You could check out http://www.dedico.com/promotions/ and get yourself a great Core2Duo system, that's fully managed and dedicated to you, that comes with Remote Reboot, with 25mbps Dedicated Unmetered Bandwidth, for only $175/mo. :-)

That's more than enough to cover you, at around ~7300GB/mo!

All shared servers are connected to Gig ports.

I think there's a misunderstanding somewhere, we've been putting all servers on switch's using GigE ports for quite some time now, we have plans that are capped/unmetered at 100 MBPS, but they are still on GigE ports. Where on the site do you see the shared plans are on 100 MBPS ports?

okay, I see, thanks :-)

the "100 mbps port" is shown at "step 3 configure" of the order process,
so I guess it is just an out-of-date information.

That sig should actually be updated, the 3 month free promo ran last summer. 2 months free when paying quarterly on new virtual plans is running right now.

Not sure why he said 1.25Mb instead of 10mbps, but I assume that's what he means.

Typo. I can configure server to needs. However, many different hosting offers out there for him to look over and find what best suits his needs.

That said, it is basically some troll who follows around repeating same bullshit over and over. It really is little more than that.

beemk 03-23-2010 08:42 PM

funny you made the exact same typo in the other thread and didnt change it. 1.25 is obviously not a typo for anything close to 10.

1.25MB/s == 10mbps

That's about 3200GB per month.

I assumed that's what BF meant, my bad. 1.25mpbs is only 400gb a month

I can go 10 or 25 Mbps on my hosting depending on client needs, and have posts that have reflected that. I can set different servers up to whatever a client wants. All really comes down to a tailored solution.

That said, beemk has little to do besides following me around from board to board posting the same tired shit. Anyone can easily do a search on his name, my name, and some of the shit he repeats and see it is just his personal nonsense.
