Socialengine.net

acctman 03-24-2010 12:50 PM

socialengine looks good on the outside but can't handle large amounts of users... just like 90% of the social scripts they're designed by developers who dont stress test there scripts/coding. They're perfect for few hundred users online but once you get 500-1000+ they'll all start to give problems. Best suggestion build your own cause more than likely you'll be spending the extra money to fix all the php/mysql load problems

Not really looking for free - looking for large scale - full feature product that we can build from.

CyberHustler 03-24-2010 02:23 PM

Good luck...

I totally disagree with you on socialengine not being able to handle massive loads. Do your HW and google it. :thumbsup I just purchased a copy and going into beta soon. Hopefully it work out well.

I've heard nothing but good things about socialengine.

The only way :2 cents:

With Social Engine you purchase the parts you need. When you purchaes it, you own the source so you can edit how you feel. There are many companies out there that do nothing but edit these scripts for their clients.

BAKO 03-24-2010 09:37 PM

I'm also looking to get one

Sounds like a pretty modular and scalable solution.

no no these suggestions are way off.
look up dolphin. the best social script and open source.

i did my homework, like you said you "just" purchased a copy... let me know how you feel once you have 500-1000 users on at the same time.

I just spent 2 months building a site using Dolphin... It is buggy as hell, almost impossible to customize, and extremely inefficient, but it's hard to beat the amount of features. Time will tell how far it scales :1orglaugh

So if you were starting from scratch again, do you think you would still take the Dolphin route?

I just started sending traffic to the site today, I'd have to let you know in a month or two. Even now I'm still stuck with some basic stuff like customizing the title tag on every page (there is a good SEO plugin for Dolphin 6.x that handles this but not for 7.0).

Don't buy Socialengine.net . It has a hard time with large member base. Go with PhpFox. Awesome support...unlike with socialengine. I've had them both and Phpfox runs rings around social engine.

chaze 04-24-2010 04:18 PM

I like http://www.datemill.com/ it's a hybrid dating site social network. Runs very smooth with lots of people but very limited options. Thje programmer can add almost anything for a fee to it.

I have it running here www.theadultworld.com

DZOIC Handshakes might be another to consider.
