I dont really have experience in the SEO area but it doesnt look like you see many .name domains in the top links at most search engines ? more importantly remember you will not benefit from type - ins and will lose a lot of traffic to the .com version.

If youre going to spend any time or $ on a domain I always recommend someone has the .com version. ( just my personal view)

the point of the name is, that you can reg form time to time superpremium keyword , so the thing is, if the extension does hurt the seo or not,

not the popularity itself among the webmasters.

well, com in these cases is for x.xxx.xxx dollars owned by big companies mostly.

I am just asking regardless of loosing some traffic, which is not my case now, have I the same chance to be placed high as the other extensions ? is this domain name seen by search engines as the same com , net, orgs extensions ?

I think, somebody had tried before myself , but i am doing my lessons anyway

Why not just test it for yourself? Type in a bunch of keywords and see how many extensions are in the top10 results for each one.

.name has been a huge failure on just about every level - had sort of a .me beginning to it where it was heavily hyped and then just came crashing down when no non-domainers really cared for them.

I would imagine for that reason, since there's hardly any sites on .name domains, Google probably doesn't like them too much. I knew someone a long time ago who got a slew of domain related ones looking to build out a network of sites on them, and years later I haven't heard anything about his sites doing well, so presumably exact matching keyword phrases including the .name didn't help him rank for them.

For SEO I'd stick with com/net/org and for particular countries, their ccTLD.
