Apple Computer

I have been a Mac advocate for so many years and have converted countless PC users to Mac in my owen little "Mac fanboy world". However....

How does Apple do so many amazing things that seem to leave all others scratching their heads? Between their product design, software, hardware and marketing, how can they be so far ahead of the rest. I know market share does not compare to PC/Microsoft but aside from that, don't you all agree?

Talk about it....

DBS.US 03-27-2010 11:39 PM

The PC companies just "Don't get it"

DimeCash 03-27-2010 11:51 PM

One of the primary reasons that they are so successful in this way is that they have ability to control and develop their product in both the software and hardware side of the business.

Another reason is that they are not afraid to think outside the box, example unibody notebook construction, using the aluminum body as a sell contained heat sink, extensive R&D to develop products which will last, all of this including the materials may cost more but they set a higher standard.

Most of the PC notebooks before MAC started are pieces of shit that last about a whole 1 year then look like they are about 5 years old with the plastic and paint wearing off.

pamon 03-27-2010 11:58 PM

they see the needs of their users and create products around that. plus excellent marketing and design guys. iPhone and iPod come to mind. Their laptops are highly priced but pretty durable and feature rich. I'm a macbook pro user and love it. But agree, there's a premium for it.

I guess that depends on how you measure successful, but that *is* the primary reason they own less than 10% of the computer market and PC's control over 80%.

I dunno but its pretty crazy. I swore off Windows 3 years ago and have been loving my imac since. Needed a laptop for travel last month and figured I would give Windows 7 a shot. Not only had I heard great things abut it, but I didnt want to pay over a grand for a laptop only being used for travel. So I bought an i3 Gateway fully loaded up for $599. Was an excellent deal but Windows 7 just bothered me. Its ridiculous how much more user friendly and intuitive Leopard is and how much I missed imovie to edit my videos. I took it back a week later and paid another $400+ just to get a Macbook. The Gateway had the Mac beat in every category and was nearly half price, but I just couldnt live without the Mac OS and i life. Damn Apple and their amazing OS!

kane 03-28-2010 01:11 AM

I haven't used an Apple computer since I was in 8th grade in 1985. I guess I don't understand what makes them so great. I hear that they are easy to use and I do agree that they look nice, but I wonder what about them makes people so happy.

My computer seems to work great, it is easy to use and I don't have many complaints about it. Are Macs that much easier to use or am I missing the entire point?

PenisFace 03-28-2010 01:13 AM

Mac is succesful because for the most part, their pc customers (thats what a mac is, its a pc, its not anything different than a windows based pc... personal computer...) are morons who enjoy being told that they're stupid. Apple pumps out a mac commercial that goes something like this:

"i'm so goddam stupid, i dont even know how to turn on my computer, hurf!"

"well boy do we have news for you, you fucktard, we've made a pc so idiot proof that even your dumb ass can use it!"

"durf hurrrrrrrr, amazink, i can using internet! me show family PICS ON MY COMPUTER DEVICE"

"and it costs way more than a comparable PC!~ you're such an idiot, thx for business k thanks"

"omg im a mac user, hey everyone let me tell you about the mac lifestyle!!111ok"

edit: that's 9 out of 10 mac user's for ya.

Gerco 03-28-2010 10:39 AM

There are quite a few reasons the Macs today are better.

1. (Like it's been said) They control both the hardware and software side. So, the machines they put out are stable as hell. The OS also is Unix based, and if an app does on the extremely rare occasion hang, it does not bring any other apps with it.

2. Being the market share has been small, it's been largely ignored by the virus/malware types.

I use to buy 1 or 2 PC's a year. Now, I find myself buying and using a MAC every 5 years or so. It's just that they are so well built, there really is no need to replace them as fast.

I have macbook pro 17 thats pretty much my primary computer. hooked up to a 27' monitor and connected via firewire 800 to 3 terabyte lacie drives. it's stays on and in use 24/7 and has for the most part of 5 years at this point without a hiccup. The Only issue with it has been over the 5 years I have had to replace the battery once, and now it's looking like I need to again as I'm only getting about an hour out of it again, but I only really use it as power backup.

Serge Litehead 03-28-2010 11:14 AM

if it wasn't for Bill Gates and MS Apple would be non existent at this time. apple was once on verge going belly up.

10 % thats huge if you remember that the PC market is not owned by just one company but by HP, Dell, Toshiba, Acer, Gateway, Compaq and many other smaller companies

For laptop sales Apple rank 4th in the world

Toshiba 26.2 percent
HP at 23.9 percent
Gateway's 13.0 percent
Apple 9.9 percent
Compaq 8.5 percent

It seems that that next year Apple is forecast to increase its market share by 26% over this years 16% So that should mean their 10% will go to 12.5% overall worldwide market share. Even if you hate Macs its a great place to invest a few thousand $

Yep. Lets be honest. The reason most people (myself included) buy a Mac is because we are fed up with POS Windows freezing, crashing and viruses. I would have never switched if it wasnt for Windows and their awful OS and computers! Thanks MS! :thumbsup

Bullshit. All the dumbass Windows fanboys always argue that and its just stupid. I guarantee you I know computers better than you do, doesnt matter. If that were true, how come I have had ZERO problems doing the EXACT same things I do on my Mac as I did on my Windows PC? My 63 year old aunt's computer gets nasty viruses and I can tell you shes not downloading porn or rap music. She does NOTHING but check her emails, uses Facebook and messenger. Facebook however is the most visited site online and I am sure thats where she got it, or maybe in Yahoo mail, who knows. Point is, Windows is a ridiculously bad OS and people get fed up with it and switch to Mac

I

jalami 03-28-2010 12:13 PM

I think the main reason is that Apple simply isn't afraid of making risks. The Steve has so many fans that will buy anything they come up with, which enables them to think outside the box and really change things up. Worst case scenario (e.g. Apple TV) they still sell enough to fill their initial order with the supplier.

NETbilling 03-28-2010 12:31 PM

I was not trying to mac this into a Mac vs. PC debate but just delve deeper into why Apple does so many amazing things. I know Steve Jobs is certainly the mastermind. However, can it be that one guy has all of this vision or does he just have some of the most creative minds in the world working with him?

She probably saw an email from Facebook saying her password got reset with a shiny zip file in it that she couldn't refuse or went to some bit.ly link that JoeBob7283 sent her saying "HOLY SHIT CHECK THIS SHIT OUT!", like most other stupid people that get viruses do. I haven't had antivirus software in a decade and amazingly the rampant world of viruses seems to avoid me somehow...amazing! The virus talk from Apple fan boys gets old.

Apple doesn't suck, but to say PC buyers just "don't get" Apple or that PC's suck is a bit much. I simply don't want to pay more to do the same shit I would be doing on a PC. If you're doing music or video for a living, then sure Apple is probably a good investment. I can count on 1 hand the times I've had to reboot this computer since I got it over 9 months ago and it's running OMTFG VISTA 64-BIT OH NOES! Mac users need to stop getting their PC information from Mac commercials.

digitaldivas 03-28-2010 12:53 PM

I used to be an apple tech long time ago and the motherboard configuration is just fucking beautiful. I also love the "air inducted" imacs. My XBOX360 is louder than my computer. And as a tech for Apple, they took VERY GOOD care of us. And even wanted suggestions, feedback on how they could improve their internal architecture. I guess they listened.

KillerK 03-28-2010 03:08 PM

I love the Mac, however I can't program on it due to Cut N Paste. It's way slower and the keys aren't right. I have 5 Macs, just use don't use them for programming.

all I got to say about that

http://techcrunch.com/2010/03/26/apple-microsoft-stock/

Apple looks poised to get within $50 billion of Microsoft market cap any day now. Currently, Apple?s market cap is $208.76 billion, while Microsoft?s is $261.01 billion. And while $50 billion may seem like a huge chasm, consider that since December 31, 2009, just a few months ago, Apple has added about $20 billion to its market cap, while Microsoft has lost about $10 billion. Again, the gap is closing, quickly.

i think the ipad shortage is a marketing ploy to make the ipad look hot. We saw the same dog & pony show when the iphone launched. Apple is wealthy & competent, so i see no excuse for this shortage other than a gimmick.

Not really. They ran out of i5/i7 chips for the new imacs and there was a shortage on those for awhile, still might be. You really think they would keep people with money ready to buy waiting around all for a marketing ploy? :1orglaugh

Yep, same with the xbox 360, PS3 and Wii. The release a smaller number than they know they can sell to create a buzz and a must have feel about it.

Thurbs 03-28-2010 09:28 PM

and yet , my aging Macbook Pro needs a replacement and still no fucking core i5 or i7 to be had.

very frustrating :(

yes i do. apple exerts fascist like authority over vendors & its image. They are obsessed with secrecy & manipulating perception. So a week before launch, the ipad "sells out?" LOL...

i regret i paid up for 7 different pc laptops I have never been happy about. Its good i finally crossed the line of $1500 per laptop and Im happy now. Macbooks are just way ahead.

GrouchyAdmin 03-29-2010 01:00 PM

Apple is so far ahead, they've thrown away their proprietary platforms and rebuilt NeXTStep. Plus, they had the PDA market cornered and let that go.

But, yeah, their designs and tight integration is really what makes their stuff so nice at times. The iPad, however, I am going to guess will be a massive flop.

JustDaveXxx 03-29-2010 01:14 PM

My work and money depends heavily on my Macs working. Never a failure or serious problem with my macs since i switched 7 years ago.

Im not here to convert or convince people one way or another. I seriously cant afford any crash of any type when im working on a clients project or content.

My clients dont want to hear that my PC crashed and "im sorry that i wont be able to meet my deadlines" or "sorry i lost what i shot for you. Next time i will use a Mac.":2 cents:

Bman 03-29-2010 01:21 PM

They look at the market and make the best product striving to improve what's already out there. Its called the strive for excellence. usually people dont fail when they do this and implement it.
