Never work with family...
Well, after many years of ups and downs working with a sibling. All I can say is never work with family. It will never work out! Well maybe I'm being slightly pessimistic but I don't think so....

It was a few mainstream sites that we developed that now generate upwards of about $100k monthly. I was supposed to be a partner... yet I haven't seen a penny. It's amazing what money does to people, even family members. |
well that will make for an uncomfortable easter.

I agree 100000000000000000000000%. I found that out the hard way. 1 word: COUSIN

Someone told me that a long time ago, I guess I was too young and stupid at the time to heed their warnings. |
I have had a really bad experience doing business with friends.

I think it all really depends on what you are doing and what your relationship is like. For a couple of years I had a part time business where I bought stuff at auctions then sold it on e-bay. I did pretty good. I put in about 15 hours a week and made some nice extra money off of it. My brother and a friend were both involved in it and we split the jobs equally, got the work done and never had money issues. My friend that was involved was just talking about starting it back up and I am actually looking forward to working with him again on it.
On the other hand I once bought a house with a few friends that we were going to renovate and flip. As we looked for the house and bought the house everything was cool. Once it became clear just how much work it was going to be it became harder and harder to get things done. Just getting everyone together to work on the house became a pain the ass and since I was the only one that was already self-employed it seemed like I had to handle everything since I didn't have a "real" job and I wasn't married with kids. Eventually, we finished it and sold it, but it took about twice as long as planned just to get the work done. I'm still friends with them and we hang out all the time, but we won't be doing that again :) |
Great piece of advice...

A mainstream site generating 100K per month?? What are they selling - cocaine? Cause I cannot think of anything else that would generate those kind of numbers. Hell, I have a pretty successful music-related site and I don't do anywhere near those kind of sales.

I promise that all of these saying are just saying that worked for some. Natalie & I work, sleep, lol even shit together. I have worked with my father in a business years ago which was very successful & my sister & I have worked together, not in the adult business & have found not a problem. Natalie & I are friends with some of our clients & now we only see some as friends. It all depends on your own personalities. Rob04, do you want your business to work? If you do, sit down and speak to your sibling. Forget trying to be the big I am as your sibling may have some great ideas & looking from a different angle, could make it work better than your ideas. Also your sibling must do the same. You both can make it work together. Good luck buddy.:thumbsup |

True. I laughed just reading the title :thumbsup

Also, never loan money to family. If it isn't a question of "life and death", obviously.
|
nice advice. It cant mix oil and wather :pimp

It all depends on the character of the friend or sibling of course, but from my own experiences with working with family I would have to wholeheartedly agree. Worked with a family member for nearly 5 years and after that I simply had had enough. Business was good and somewhat profitable but the stress from not getting along wasn't worth it.

Don't rent to them either.
Doing "business" with anybody that you were not introduced to on a business level is very very risky. Too many emotions and expectations at play. The person in a higher position practically always gets burned. Just avoid it. |
