Att; All Domain Owners/Brokers/Traders **Domain Renewal Scam Continues To Grow **

Last year I posted about a " domain appraisal scam " and it saved at least 6 - 7 webmasters here $$$$$ as they almost fell for it ! until they read the warning post.( I know because they posted in the thread saying thanks)

Well another scam is making the rounds again this year ..so please kindly bump this thread for a few days like the last one to avoid anyone getting sucked in by it ..thanks.

**Domain Renewal Scam Continues To Grow **

"" An old domain name renewal scam that uses the domain name DomainRenewalOnline.org appears to be increasing its activities.

The scam emails ususally contain subject lines such as “Regarding your domain” and “Information about your domain”, the notices are signed by “ISP Renewal” and are basically trying to get you to submit your credit card information to renew domain names.

It is not known yet if the purpose of this fraud is to harvest and sell credit card numbers or simply to get you to switch to another registrar…either way be on your guard ! "

Yes i received 2 mails how i need to "renew"my domains but i am not that stupid.

Rofl 03-30-2010 05:43 AM

Just got one this morning, click, delete, move on...

If I get emails from my registrars to renew my domain names, I never click in the email but goto my registrars control panel via my browser.

You can avoid ANY email scam by simply doing that.

BTW/ thanks for the warning Claire, I'm sure it's still needed for some

Thanks...yes most scams are simple and look like only someone stupid might fall for them but people do (and most are not stupid).

Last years scam was to ask you to sell your domain subject to a valuation and they slipped in thier valuation company with 2 other well know genuine ones ..of course thier bogus one offered the lowest fee to value your domain so many used it .....the scam was simply to extract 40 bucks a shot from people and give them made up valuations..no one was ever gonna buy your domain ......( sounds easy to spot for some but huge amounts of people fell for it ! )

Bottom line is what maybe easy to spot by one may not be spotted by all.

Just a quick heads up.....I got hit again today by these scammers within minutes of posting in the buy and sell section.....today they are using the name thedomaininvestors.com and the guy was calling himself....Stephen Hopkins.......Beware !

Ps...its last years scam again of offering to buy your domain...based on valuation.

Thanks Claire. I keep my domains at Moniker, so any notices like this are obviously spam.

Anyone with a brain knows to avoid both this scam and the appraisal scam - both have been around for a loooong time.

By the way, I'm from Nigeria and my grandfather is dying and is leaving me a $50 million inheritance which I'll split with one of you to help me collect if you send me $10,000 first...honest !!!!111ONEONEWON

I think thats a little unfair to people who get scammed..

On a side note ..do you know how many people still get caught in the nigerian scam that are from USA/Canada etc ? it runs into thousands yes thousands every year involving many millions of dollars....some trust people too much....some are a mix of greed...I wouldnt say they are all brainless/dumb or anything simlar.....

This has nothing to do with where your domains are registered. If someone is interested in purchasing one of your domains then they'll get a hold of you regardless of where its registered. At least you didn't throw in the Moniker affiliate link this time.

A simple 'fuck off and eat my shit cunt' works for me.
