Favorite childhood comic book?
Hello there nerds and man-children. What comics did you grow up on?
I never used to like Superman or Spiderman or any of those pussies. Was all about PUNISHER and XMEN. Comics with BALLS. http://www.coverbrowser.com/image/pu...urnal/61-1.jpg |

Generation X was my favorite, I also loved the entire Age of Apocalypse arc that Marvel did. But Gen X took the cake, because it had my favorite character ever in comic books, M. I'm glad that Marvel didn't forget about her after they cancelled Gen X, she's with X-Factor now :)

I love comics. I've collected since I was a kid. Still collect today, although now I don't really read them, just bag and box them so they stay in perfect condition. Punisher is my favorite. I have every issue, including the limited editions/mini series, etc. I also collect Daredevil, Spiderman, have some rare Dark Knight issues, and others (too tired to list 'em). Comics rock.

Since I managed a comic book store at one point in time, I've read through a slew of different titles over the years...would be hard to pick just a few favorites but some of the more known ones (I'll leave the obscure Indy favorites for another time) I was into was always the X-titles / Mutant titles as well as the What If? series.
Actually, on my trip through Phoenix last week I stopped by a comic shop for the first time in probably 8 years and picked up a few graphic novels to read. I recommend this one for a twisted, dark look at the future: http://media.mycomicshop.com/iss/300...19588236_1.jpg |
Spider-man and Fantastic Four. Then Conan and The Warren Magazines like Vampirella and then Heavy Metal magazine. Then of course artists like Frank Miller who got me into Daredevil with the Elektra series and Sin City and even got me to cross over to DC (something that is like changing religions before the Death Of Superman Saga) with the Batman Graphic Novel
|
Grew up on Punisher & X-Men everything - didn't like supes or batman or spider-man etc. at all.
Now I open any x-book and am just like wtf. Still buy them and read them though. Think I only do it for the ritual anymore. Nowadays I get my kicks from The Walking Dead & Invincible.. well pretty much anything from Kirkman. Y the last man was the last GREAT thing I read (that had a conclusion). Sky Doll is REALLY good - I recommend it 100% |
i know all of them, all favorite
|
I used to love the Image comic collection:
Cyberforce: http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0...orce_super.jpg Spawn: http://uo.stratics.com/content/inter...aire/spawn.jpg Youngbloods: http://www.iwatchstuff.com/2009/02/09/youngblood.jpg Shadowhawk: http://sequentialdegenerate.files.wo...wk13_cover.jpg |
I grew up mostly on comics from DC and Marvel in the 1970s. I enjoyed the monster and western comics just as much as the superheroes.
|
What's funny about comic books is I couldn't give a fuck about them these days, but I find myself wanting to defend certain comics that I grew up on when someone insults or belittles them even though the entire industry is as much a marketing tool today as film or music. There was a day when there was an authentic truth to them just like music in it's early day and probably even film too.

The Beano, of course... even Eric Clapton used to read it:
