Dude, I just dropped 250 ona HDMI cable
I didn't really, cos only cocks buy HDMI cables from Monster.
Here's why monoprice is your friend. http://www.mint.com/blog/wp-content/...heRipHDMI3.jpg Via digg.com |
monster cables is the biggest rip off ever
Funny, but i noticed same thing, how hdmi cable are realy expensive but still not 250 dollars, more like 250 Hrk which is 5 times less but still a lot.
They wouldn't be offering them if there wasn't any gullible enough customers.
it's a weird industry, the only place an electronics or software retailer can make a profit is on accessories and warranties - they make ridiculously low margins on hardware and software. if dumb people didn't bite on Monster cables and extended warranties it would be impossible for a retailer to even pay his rent nevermind make a profit.
every industry finds its own strange ways of working - when you go see a movie in the movie theater you realize that almost all of your ticket price goes to the distributor/producer, the movie theater owner makes his money selling popcorn and soft drinks at insane profit margins. |
monster hdmi cables are $15 on ebay....
monoprice is great for these things.

But I would buy from monoprice again! |
pop up on woot all the time for $7 (12footers)
Its the name. Just like Ed Hardy.
I get 6ft cables in the big bin at Fry's for 4 bucks.

which one is ed? |
Fuck overpriced cables... One time they got me for gold platted RCA shielded with hymen skin for $200
the only important difference between those HDMI cables are versions as I know: HDMI 1.0, HDMI 1.1, HDMI 1.2, HDMI 1.2a, HDMI 1.3, HDMI 1.3a/b/c, HDMI 1.4, HDMI 1.4a (3D - march 2010) due to the audio, video standards you need.
hahah i was going to say..
monster cables is a sham, lol
It's like anything else...people that have money like to pay more because of big dick syndrome -- and smart companies know this and capitalize on it. I say Monster is pretty smart. The assholes that spend that much -- not so smart.
I have a 6 foot hdmi cable that I got for $8. One of my friends was an idiot and got a monster cable for over $200 so I had him bring it to my place so we could compared the quality between my cheap one and his overpriced one.. Both cables produced the same quality, but my friend kept saying shit like "well, mine will last longer because it's made with stronger material". LOL riiiight...
I got a cable for around $6 and I can't tell the difference between mine and a friend's who paid around $40 for his. Mine even has that gold-plated look, lol
Wow, there's a lot of hostility in this thread :1orglaugh
Am I the only one who appreciates Monster as a brilliant marketing company? (I buy my HDMI cables for $4.99 from the big bin at Frys) |
just ordered some from monoprice, thanks for the link, hoping my PP won't get hacked)))
i don`t need it...
got my monster cables from eBay for a very good price
you would have to be an idiot to pay $200 for a cable... paying few bucks extra makes sense, you actually do get better quality, more durable, etc cable, but $200, wtf?

? including a very nice 12' HDMI (hooks the PS3 and 3 Chip Sony to the big screen) you get what you pay for, and if your system is good enough, you'll notice a difference ? lesser systems, however, are more limited by display quality or other factors where the cable won't make as noticeable a difference... |
yah i paid around 100 for mine as well it was a cross sale i couldn't refuse
there was no option to uncheck the X for me LOL .... |
Most industries do the same thing. The next time you go to a restaurant or fast food place compare the price of a soda to the price of the food you are buying.
it is too much for that cable, really, i think, $200

I kinda feel sorry for the average consumer, the guy goes in and buys and 3k tv and lets assume he gets a free PS3/wii from the supplier aswell. It makes sense to him to buy a $200 hdmi cable to get the "best quality", $30 on a meter of coax for best tv reception, $150 power board because the manufacturer wont let you claim warranty if the tv gets fried without a top quality surge protector oh and dont forget another $80 for optical cable if hes outputting the audio to his speakers! A good salesperson can do this shit all day long and will keep doing it
i got 6 hdmi cables all custom lengths with ferrite cores, 24 pairs of gold plated banana plugs and 200 ft of 12 gauge speaker wire for about 70 shipped from mono-price. I love that place!
That's nothing - enter the world of Hi-Fi and power cords!
an eg: http://whathifi.com/Review/Russ-Andr...werKord-W350i/ $400+ for a 1metre power cord. which is a good seller, but then to enter the realm of totally unfucking surreal: http://www.russandrews.com/product.a...TEFVRHSFDOGVEX which will knock you back $5000+ to deliver electricity to your amplifier. Per metre. :thumbsup |
I cant tell the difference between expensive audio wires and a lamp cord:winkwink: as a matter of fact I have used electrical cords for speaker wires in the past, works great:thumbsup

I can buy 5 - $8 HDMI over 50 years or 1 monster for $200? |

Sucker! |
^ what he said, cables for less is still a ripoff compared to monoprice
The only place to spend real money on any A/V setup is on your amplifiers and speakers. That is where big bucks will really give you the difference.
this is how i rolll

Elemental designs Speakers, LG42" 1080p, Onkyo 607B, xbox elite, and ps3 |
There is NO DIFFERENCE between Expensive Monster Cable, and properly priced CHEAP cable.
I hate Futureshop and Best buy because of the asshole salespeople there. They have lots of evil tricks including: - Sales people who upsell you on overprice cable - Demos of "noisy"cables vs Monster Cable - Demos of "noisy" Powerbars vs Monster Cable "filtered" powerbars. A couple of years ago I was checking out new TV's there, and this douchebag salesperson was selling a little old lady on all this extra shit that she didn't need (or understand). She just bought a TV, and was about to drop $180 for a power bar to "improve the video quality" and make the tv "last much longer". Fucking bastard. The best way to shop at these places is to do your research online to find the best price first. If they have it, go to the store and buy ONLY that. Forget the add-ons and especially the rip-off warranty. |
i do have a monster power conditioner but i got it for 150 off buy.com where as in bestbuy it was 500, whenever the heat would kick on in my house id get a low hum coming from my sub no matter which outlet i plugged it into.
An average highend Monstercable costs around 1.5-2$ if you buy them directly at, for example maxcable.com. You can even brand your very own "brand" of cable. They have standard catalogue for you to pick from and they can make ANY kind of cable for pennies on the dollar, even the super high end ones.
A container of cables from China, worth 50000$ can easilly be sold for 750 000$-1 000 000$. ("easilly" if you CAN sell them, we're talking about 50K cables in 1 container). The markup on cables is at least 10x on low end and easily 100x on highend. |

The short ones, well, you need a scope to tell the difference, so, not worth that mutch of an extra cost. |
