Legal Question for an Adult Idea.
I've been researching and gathering info for an idea I have come up with which is a new parallel for this industry. I even bought an amazing 2 word domain that describes it completely! I want to see If I can do a joint venture with a more established company but I don't have much to invest ($2000, :/ college FTL). It's an amazing idea.
Anyways I'm going to contact some of the big boys in the game so I can use their resources and just asking for a percentage of the income. How can I guard my idea? Like I don't want to meet up with their sales rep or whoever manages that and then they supposedly take it into consideration and then I see all my shit online within weeks. Should I record the conversation? I know alot of you guys probably have some experience with Joint Ventures or any business venture. Every single comment is greatly appreciated. Sorry for posting so many threads but you guys have straight forward answers and are the only ones that can answer these type of questions. :) Like do I have to consult with a lawyer if I want to bring it forward? What happens if they steal my idea? There is no way a college student can win vs. a multi-million dollar empire |
Just get an NDA from everyone you discuss it with- also if its that great of an idea you could potentially patent it but that's quite expensive.

No one knows your approach to the subject. Good luck!

If the idea is as big as you say do yourself a favour and consult with your lawyer, they will be able to provide you with the best advice.

Just don't smoke a joint when you do your joint venture, or it might go wrong. Good luck, Majestic.

Yeah, why don't you contact the big boys.

You can't patent or trademark an idea -- stuff like that falls under "trade secrets" in the intellectual property realm. Ideally, you need a nondisclosure agreement (NDA) with hefty liquidated damages.
That being said, any real player will be leery of signing such an agreement. In this industry, you really need to bring more to the table than just an idea. |
You are more than welcome to e-mail me and tell me everything about your idea and then I will best be able to give you advice. :thumbsup
LOL jp To be honest, I tried to do some joint ventures but nobody ended up being good for it in one way or another. Honestly, try and figure it out on your own and only if absolutely necessary look for some type of joint venture or investor. Definitely go with an NDA and just be careful who you tell EVEN with the NDA, they can always have a few drinks later that night and tell a bar buddy, who tells someone else etc and you will not be able to trace it back to them when someone you never even heard of does your idea before you. :2 cents: |
hide it under your mattress
