Dedi: CPanel or Direct Admin

Which control panel do you prefer, and why?

sandman! 04-02-2010 08:16 PM

Direct Admin cheaper and does what you need it to do.

Barefootsies 04-02-2010 08:21 PM

We need some candyflip in here.

I know he has some experience in both, and a story to paint the picture in the differences between the two. That dude seems to have at least dabbled with just about every program on the market. At least those widely used.

DA, just cleaner, more organized and a lot easier to use.

Appears to be the case.

I do not mind if something is a bit more expensive if there is quality, convenience, or something as a major selling point (like buying a Premiere/Sorenseon versus VideoCharge). But looking at the two, just seems DA is better from consumer point of view.

exactly, it's much simpler, organized and easier to use.

BIGTYMER 04-02-2010 08:45 PM

Cpanel no doubt!

svzcom 04-02-2010 08:53 PM

DA because is more cheap and have all the things i want, but if the cpanel and DA have the same price, i choose cpanel

riddler 04-02-2010 08:56 PM

CPanel if you are not very console inclined, DAdmin if you have a grasp on console stuff.

It appears the price difference is around $10.00 a month difference.

Well, that, and it would appear from the website(s) that CPanel is lump sum $425.00 per server versus DA which allows monthly billing.Which would explain the cheaper part of the equation.

From the end user, consumer, point of view. It looks like CP is a lot of one touch installs, or point and click for different things versus DA requiring a few extra steps in the grand scheme of things.

I have been on DA so long myself personally, I barely remember CP.

I just bought a server license to DA for $300 I believe it was. Pretty fair I thought, pays for itself pretty quickly plus it's transferable, which is great. Their message board is pretty good for support issues plus their regular tech support is pretty quick.

Haven't really touched CPanel in probably 10 years.

I would forget about the price difference and focus on whichever software I knew better. The amount of time you spend learning a new system will kill any cost savings.

|I have mainstream virtual clents . CPanel is definitively the more user friendly panel ( mainly for mysql ) , and you can add either Fantastico or another cheaper " one click" install . It consumes a bit more ressources then DA.

Yeah. That's what I have heard.

Same here.

Lace 04-02-2010 09:36 PM

I've used both and there really isn't much of a difference IMO. They both do the same thing, and do it well.

I've been using DA more often now though and haven't had any issues. I add domains, setup db's and that's it. Simple enough.

BIGTYMER 04-02-2010 09:37 PM

Cpanel Accelerated. :)

Rocks!

candyflip 04-02-2010 09:51 PM

Never used Direct admin.

Cpanel4life!

hawkadu 04-02-2010 09:53 PM

Cpanel for me.

baddog 04-02-2010 10:06 PM

cpanel is a resource hog. DA is very intuitive, cpanel never impressed me

tiger 04-03-2010 12:18 AM

I really like cpanel, it has steadily improved since I stared using it. If you know a few commands and are familiar with cpanel you can do just about everything you need to do.

I have no experience with DA so I can't speak on that. Cpanel is extremely good though as long as you can do few things from the command line or at least google them.

icymelon 04-03-2010 12:51 AM

I like direct admin much more. in fact I try to avoid cpanel

TidalWave 04-03-2010 01:06 AM

honestly, cPanel has a ton more features and quick and easy conveniences.
DA does the very basics and has a learning curve in the beginning with its interface and what is where.

kada 04-03-2010 01:15 AM

they r both good

A ton more features? LOL

Sure, more features at being unstable.

DA kicks cPanel's ass on loads. Is it a little harder to explore? Yep, but the functionality is better.

cPanel wins in instant activation, though. I was annoyed with having to wait several hours for DA.

DA is also cheaper.
