Thoughts on the Fair Tax movement?

I've been reading the site

http://www.fairtax.org

and I am not sure what I think about it. On the surface, it sounds like a good thing. But I am not sure that I am not missing something either.

Anyone pro or con that cares to share why?

I personally feel it's a good idea with no chance in hell of ever passing.

Yeah instantly wiping out one of the largest arms of the government, it's too bad, even though it'll collect a LOT more taxes for our country it'll never happen :(

I 100% approve of Fair Tax... it's so common sense... You pay tax on what you consume... the wealthier you are, the more expensive things you consume and you pay more taxes.

It's really quite simple and logical so as barefootsies said, no chance in hell of ever passing.

+1

Democrats will never give up the power of the IRS. Republicans are the best chance even though it could increase the tax burden on "some" of the rich.

Better yet, let's just get Libertarians in office and make everyone happy.

Fuck yeah! I wish more people realized what Libertarians stand for. Most people think they want to remove all welfare, government hand outs, etc... really in a Libertarian government you can still have those things, they're moved to the state level. As was originally intended by the founders...

A Libertarian government (which I believe to be closest to the spirit and intention of the Constitution and Bill of Rights) is the only system of government that would allow a democratic state, a republican state, a socialist state, all under The United States of America. Libertarians will naturally be AGAINST states like that but that's only in philosophy. What they're really pushing is a massive down sizing of the Federal Government and the power returned to the States... where it was meant to rest.
