5 Hour Energy: Discuss

This shit really does keep me going on my late nights. I was reluctant to consider parting from my beloved red bull, but I'm hooked now. Between this and my espresso machine, I'm a late night workaholic.

At least it's not meth. :pimp

Who's tried it? Who likes it?

jollyperv 04-06-2010 09:22 PM

This kind of shit doesn't help me focus one bit, nor does coffee. Now adderall, that's a different story. Pop one and you'll do two weeks worth of work in a day while cleaning your house at the same time.

The Porn Nerd 04-06-2010 09:23 PM

Can't. Too tired.

I drink it on occasion. It's bitter and upsets my stomach, but it does the job at $5 a bottle.

I drink Red Bull for the taste, not the energy. If anything, it makes me feel worse. And the crash is terrible. I much prefer sugarfree but Sam's Club seems to have stopped carrying it. With that said, I do still drink two a day, LOL.

papill0n 04-06-2010 09:30 PM

fuck that shit you can keep it

Truuuuuuuue dat.

lazycash 04-06-2010 09:46 PM

The only thing thats good about it is that it has very little sugar. Despite what they say, the energy you get from it is because its 2 ounces has as much caffeine has a cup of coffee. It has an excessive amount of niacin which in its dosage can cause can cause your face to flush and feel itchy, which can last for 15 to 30 minutes. Its certainly not as bad for you as other drinks such as red bull and monster, but the bottom line is that you shouldn't be drinking any energy drinks, instead rely on a healthy diet, excercise and proper sleep to fuel you.

While I do totally agree with the latter portion of your statement in theory, real life often proves highly difficult to mesh with such utopian health practices. That said, I do eat healthy a lot of the time, and exercise, but when you run a company you simply don't get the sort of sleep you should - not until you're mega ballin' at least.

Then again.......

I pop Foosh tablets when I need a pick-me-up.

I don't know if they changed the recipe or I'm just used to it but they don't seem to give me the mild buzz they used to. The "change" happened around the time I bought a new carton so I suspect it's something to do with the new batch.

I agree with lazycash, these kinds of "supplements" should be used occasionally, not routinely.

Oh that reminds me, did any of you ever try the short lives SNICKERS CRACK EDITION CANDY BAR from a few years back? It was a regular snickers with enough stimulant to make your heart palpitate like you had just done a rail off a hookers ass.

I hear ya, and I knew I'd get some responses like that. I have a hectic life and many times only get three hours of sleep, but I've always been able to power through the day. Guess I'm just anal about what I put in my body and refuse to drink anything that I'm unsure about.

Killswitch - BANNED FOR LIFE 04-07-2010 12:18 PM

I used to drink that shit, stopped a while ago in favor for water, that shit helps too.

chaze 04-07-2010 12:21 PM

I think it helps but it's over priced. I still think old school coffee is the best wake me up. Also a new coffee alternative that is healthier is: taragui (yerba mate) I just put it in my coffee maker. A lot of people believe it has special healing powers as well.

smutnut 04-07-2010 12:28 PM

Nothing they sell over the counter can actually do anything that isn't mostly psychological unless you have some pretty freaky body chemistry to begin with. People don't hit the street to by meth and other uppers cause you can get that effect from marketed dog shit they sell over the counter.

atom 04-07-2010 12:31 PM

Im a coffee guy. I used to drink redbull and have tried the 5 hour energy but as someone else said. It upsets my stomach. The nasty burps and heartburn it brings later are no worth it for me.

So what's the deal with adderall, is it really that effective and what exactly does it improve or help? I was in Vegas last weekend visiting my buddy who is a pro poker player. I hung out with about a dozen pro poker players and it became apparent pretty quickly that many of them were on adderall or should I say "abusing it". They would straggle in at 4am and say things like "I'm all adderalled out". My buddy said it was the drug of choice in the poker community. Is it just an energy boost or does it help concentration and focus?

Farang 04-07-2010 12:44 PM

Does it make you horny?

Jayvis 04-07-2010 01:00 PM

Google a drink called Bazi... its like taking a shot of vitamins, it works.

I was prescribed it once..

Couldn't tell you what it did for me though.. other than a mild high. Didn't notice it helping me concentrate or focus better.
