Pop culture question - who started the gay moustache?
 

I just wonder - was that Freddie Mercury as a role model and other guys following him or was that whole "blue lagoon" masculine moustache image popular in the gay community before that?

It was older than Freddie Mercury and Tom Selleck...... Tom of Finland's old drawings from the 60s already featured dudes with that style of mustache.

The "clone" of the mid-late 70's disco era was either blonde with a fully shaved torso or hairy with THAT mustache.

I lived through it all and still have mine. Had it so long it is 'in' again.
