Design 'contests' belittle the design profession.

No self-respecting designer should ever participate in them. :2 cents:

Remember when you gave away an XBox but didn't send the prize.

Or the time I won some DVD giveaway you had and the disc that was sent was a burned copy of the movie.

i think its the opposite now. Designers need to peddle there wares since less reliable designer work imo seems to be the MO

There is no other profession where the 'contest' (work for free, get paid only if you're chosen) would be acceptable.

If I asked for all content producers to go through all the work and shoot a custom set for me, and I'll pay the one that I like best... they would all laugh. Same goes for any other profession. People who participate in design contests hurt the entire profession by acting like bums holding cardboard signs. The holder of the contest is able to choose from a number of entries, but receives the lowest grade work available because they don't want to pay acceptable rates from a skilled designer. This helps no one.

man i am as designer happy if i can try something else, and every contest is something else, so why dont put into few minutes, with every design you are trying something new so its good for creativity :winkwink:

How do you know that someone isn't using some of your work and never paid for it? Do you consistently follow up behind every contest you do? Suppose the contest holder picks the logo from another guy. In 4 months he decides to use yours instead. Let's say he figures he's already paid for a logo and should be able to pick from any that were submitted. Do you follow these people around forever making sure they aren't using your work?

I'm a professional. I work for a fee, not for free. If I need to practice I can do that here by myself and not get paid, and not put substandard work into the world for a lottery chance at making bottom dollar.

i got it mr amputated head, i am looking at it now as webmaster, not designer. if i will be designer, i will be more careful, but now its only fun and memories from old times :) so i do not care so much, but i understand you fully

That can be easily solved. Watermark your sample, payment gets the psd without the watermark :2 cents:
