Does Piracy Really Hurt?

I can't believe these idiots can study Piracy for a year and aren't sure if it hurts or not...

I don't think the "sampling" theory is a good argument. Sure, some people would like to sample something before they buy it, and in that respect its great because it will force companies to put out better products.

But, most of the piracy is due to people snatching up stuff because they know there will be no personal consequences.

If everyone could just walk into Foot Locker and take 100 pairs of shoes, and not have to worry about a cop chasing them down the street, they would do it. Piracy advocates will make lame arguments about shifting the paradigm because they're tired of making corporations richer, with no knowledge of how basic business works.

If a musical artist sells a CD or mp3 album for 9 bucks, and you download it off torrents for free, you're bypassing the price they've set to have their product go into your ear. Simple as that.

Piracy does not hurt if you're a pirate. For everyone else, it does not hurt, it kills.

Not as much as the the current credit card and economic situation.

They go hand in hand. That is why now is more crucial than ever to take a stand against it. Because when the recession is over people will be trained not to pay for it.
fighting it helps for sure.

Even if it doesn't hurt since when is not wanting to pay for something entitles you to have something?

for those of you who were paying attention

I told you that when the MPAA was attempting to criminalize the vcr (trying to get them blocked at the border even though the courts made them legal) the government study proved that the economic loss to the nation would be greater than letting it keep going.

it pretty much common sense the number of people that were employed delivering, selling ,fixing vcr in the US would exceed the number of people employeed making tv shows at the time.

tv shows need to adapt, and when they got their head out of their asses and embraced the technology it turned into the biggest money maker for the industry.

this is just a repeat of that arguement, it comming just a little early, because unlike the porn companies of old you guys are equally clueless to see how to properly embrace the distribution channel AS a distribution channel.
