Cross country road trip (pics)

For goodgirl's birthday I flew her to LA. The day after she got to LAX we drove to Phoenix and did our sponsor thing with The Phoenix Forum.

After a great show we drove back to LA and picked up Buddy (my dog). We then headed east. We are at the end of day three and have made it to Green River, UT. Tomorrow we will hit Arches National Park, then I think we go into CO and work our way into NM.

We are having a blast and seeing some very cool places. If you want to follow along, I am posting galleries of each day at GotBaddog.com

Here are a few samples from day one, which was LA to Vegas. Hope you enjoy.

Except that was in Canada and this is the southwest US. Other than that, exactly the same.

Thats not what I meant my Canadian Bear man. I like you already.

Deej 04-14-2010 10:53 PM

Was a pleasure helping you kick it off :thumbsup

baddog 04-14-2010 11:13 PM

Good seeing you and moms, Deej. Hard to believe it has taken us two days to go 400 miles. This could be a long trip.

There are no blind spots if you know how to adjust your mirrors and your seats. :2 cents:

:O I drove an 03 civic 2 door for a while. No matter what I did to the mirrors or the seats, shoulder checking was pointless, and you always had a giant blind spot. I didn't change lanes much in the car :D How's the power in that thing

baddog 04-14-2010 11:32 PM

It has a Hemi, so plenty powerful. . . . and fun.

Raf1 04-14-2010 11:50 PM

I guess you are not ghey too, so everything is pretty much different.

PenisFace 04-15-2010 12:00 AM

oh god its so obvious im a car nerd, all this great scenery and all i talk about is the car :1orglaugh

I'd love to do a road trip through the United States one day. Flying over everything to land in the south just doesnt have the same effect as driving. Next time I'm in NC visiting family, I'm driving, and taking the scenic route :D PS: Is how hot was it in phoenix at this time of the year? I love hot weather :thumbsup

Splendorous_Male 04-15-2010 12:01 AM

Bear, how many people actually care about you picking up your dog and reading your blog?
I would think that most people here have seen Nevada and Arizona. But 6 pictures of your dog? Who gives a fuck? May be its a straight man thing. Maybe if you had cute Pomeranian.

Today we walked through a portion of Zion, then drove through it on the way to Arches National Park. That was the plan anyway. There was a sign pointing to Bryce Canyon which we had to detour. So we went to the Dixie Forest and Red Canyon on the way there. Drove the length of Bryce then headed off to Arches. Did not make it, but will tomorrow.

I have driven through a lot of UT, but always the 15 and 80. I took the 70 today and that is an amazing drive. No services for 100+ miles, but beautiful. I can't wait to put today's pics up

John-ACWM 04-15-2010 01:06 AM

Beautiful pics and places :thumbsup

munki 04-15-2010 01:24 AM

Nice pics g... I just did the Vegas drive early morning (left Vegas at 3 am), and was blown away how much funner it is with no cars on the road, not to mention more beautiful, I think, getting to take everything in, instead of just yelling at the asshole going to slow in front of me...

I remember driving Vegas to Reno in the middle of the night back in the '70s with a car that had no A/C. I had just gotten my license a few months before. My dad put me behind the wheel just outside of town and told me to drive till I was tired. Once it was good and dark, I start seeing these little beady eyes on the side of the road. Many just froze, some ran away.. then some started coming toward the car. I'd slow down. My dad said "Drive". I lost count somewhere around 50 thumps and I know I was afraid to drive at night for eons because of it. My brother slept through it all. His comment when I told him... "Well at least the car is red."

Damn jackrabbits!

That would scare the shit out of me... especially young. This trip was relaxing and beautiful... almost no cars anywhere, for almost the entire Nevada to Cali State line stretch at least I'd maybe pass a car every 5-10 minutes, otherwise just black road, beautiful stars and landscape. Felt surreal compared to the normal day time drive. I think I'm going to have to do it again soon and actually make a few stops to shoot a little. The thought crossed my mind to stop at Calico and jump the dinky lil fence to get a few night shots, maybe next time :winkwink:

some very nice shots. :thumbsup

justinsain 04-15-2010 06:46 AM

Looks like a fun trip and I'm glad to see you're putting your camera to good use. :thumbsup

Longest I've had my dog in my car is four hours so I don't know how much longer he could go so it would be hard to commit to a several day road trip.

Looks like Buddy is getting plenty of breaks and play time. How's bringing him along worked out so far?

Nikki_Licks 04-15-2010 07:03 AM

Nice shots in some of those pics. I have been through all that area and must say it is breathtaking.
Hope you guys are enjoying your trip, be safe ;)

I was just telling goodgirl last night that I have zero regrets [so far] bringing him along. He is having a blast and I think I have finally proven to him that I have more endurance than he does. :1orglaugh He is also very popular with the people we meet along the way.

He doesn't even bug me about our evening walks as he gets no rest during the day.

Anyway, yesterdays pics are now up at http://www.gotbaddog.com/photos-from...ree-road-trip/

Thanks and thanks for the assistance on the surprise party. Good seeing you two.

Justinsain: not more than 10 minutes after I responded to you I took Buddy for a short walk. We had barely started when all of a sudden he started limping so badly he had to stop and sit. Buddy is not the type to show pain. My heart dropped.

I started checking him out and it turned out he had stepped on a sticker bush and got a bunch in his paw. After removal he decided to stick to the sidewalks for a while.

I love the drive between LA and Vegas, especially this time of year. Hard to appreciate it in the dark. I do ride my bike thru Vegas in the dark when I travel in the summer, though.

Today was Arches and Canyonland National Parks. Pics later.

If anyone knows of some cool place to see anywhere between LA and Chicago, and preferably to the south of I-80 give a shout out. If you live in some crazy cool place and want to show it off for a day, speak up. We want to see it.

Pics are great Lloyd, I've also been checking them out on Facebook. Keep them coming, I'd love to drive across the USA one time in my life. There is so much to see and do. I've only been to 5 different states which is pretty pathetic. Hoping to make up for that this year tho, I'll be taking weekend trips to a few more.

CaptainHowdy 04-16-2010 07:58 AM

Awesome landscapes...

Glad you are enjoying them. The US has so much to offer if you take the time to check it out. It will be worth it. :thumbsup
