LOL... I smoke, never had to stop work because of it. I don't smoke when I'm programming, ever... Just not as efficient. Use a vaporizer and you don't need to worry about smoking... or bake it into some brownies or cookies.
There are MANY worse things for you than marijuana, some of which you probably engage in daily. Maybe you should stop driving a car... ever... it could kill you. However most people see it as an acceptable risk.
I say do whatever makes you happy and lets you live your life the way you want to. Even if it shortens your life that's an acceptable risk to increase your enjoyment for the years you do have. I try to keep a balance between living life the way I like and staying alive as long as possible.
Oh and the active ingredients in marijuana actually reduce the risk of getting cancer. In fact it actually destroys cancerous cells in your brain while leaving all of the good ones intact :)
And my aunt died at 28 from lung cancer... never smoked a day in her life... anything...
