I remember being close to throwing up by running around in circles in the original Castle Wolfenstein game, haha.

I can feel really sick sometimes watching motorsport.

candyflip 04-23-2010 09:48 AM

Sometimes. But not when I watched Avatar in Cameron Super 3D.

Si 04-23-2010 09:51 AM

I can't see this 3D thing catching on to be honest, not in the home anyway.

It's old school 3D that makes you dizzy, new technology such as TrioScopics eliminates this and serves as a bridge to the more advanced systems that are coming.

At Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, they used to have a ride called BACK TO THE FUTURE: THE RIDE (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101392/). It was my favourite ride of the park, and I know alot about it, including a little secret that when they first opened the ride to a test public, that almost everyone would throw up on this ride. Quite a disaster for an $80M investment..!

The BTTF ride is a flight-simulator style motion control ride that makes people feel like their are flying by moving them in sync with the movie splashed on a giant IMAX screen.

What the ride makers realized was that there was a very slight discrepancy (in milliseconds!) between what the riders saw on screen, and what riders felt. This "lag" was enough to make people toss their cookies. Some adjustments in the software was all it took to fix the problem. With the visuals + movement in sync, the barfing stopped.

Some "3D" movies were not shot in 3D at all. Clash of the Titans was originally 2D and was re-rendered in 3D (I would love to know how that works). When Superman Returns (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0348150/) came out in 2006, most of the movie was 2D except for 20 minutes or so which was 3D. Using software, they took actual scenes filmed with a 2D camera (1 Lens), and converted them into 3D. It looked "ok" and was kind of cool, but it sucked too. The images were blurry, the flickering gave me a headache, and it was "no fun". At least one person in the audience was sick.

AVatar on the other hand was shot with a real 3D camera. It had 2 lens that were the same distance apart as your eyes. All of the CG scenes were rendered in 3D as well of course, but the "live" 3D was just as nice. No headaches at all, and definitely no one got sick that I noticed.

Thanks Stephen:thumbsup

fatfoo 04-23-2010 10:35 AM

I don't really get sick when watching 3D.

BlackCrayon 04-23-2010 10:39 AM

hmm, my eyes felt fucked watching the 3d movies..like the guy in the article i have glasses with a prescription stronger in one eye than the other. i had to look down for a few minutes several times through the movie because i just felt like my eyes couldn't take it. no headaches or dizzyness though..

Amputate Your Head 04-23-2010 10:40 AM

I don't watch 3D. It's fucking stupid.

:2 cents:

CIVMatt 04-23-2010 10:50 AM

I don't get sick, however I couldn't see doing it for long periods of time.

mvee 04-23-2010 10:53 AM

No, but I am sick of Hollywood making 3D movies in general.

smutnut 04-23-2010 10:56 AM

Mostly Seth Rogen makes me sick. I can't imagine that experience in 3D. I'd need a barf bag. If that fucker didn't sell his soul to the devil for fame, nobody fucking did. It's like watching a shaved fucking ape that they taught how to speak.

KILL_FRENZY 04-23-2010 11:16 AM

nope, the only people I asked get dizzy don't spend more than 4 hours/week in front of a screen or monitor

vending_machine 04-23-2010 01:16 PM

I get head aches from watching 3d movies. No thanks.

Deej 04-23-2010 01:23 PM

not sick no... but i only really 'see' the 3d within the first few minutes or when i actually sit and think about the 3d aspect of it.... the rest of the time im not noticing but watching the movie.

3D movies are no hype to me, it just seems the higher end ones are all coming out in 3D... so..

OMG, I remember many years ago I barfed after the Back to the Future ride at Universal... I tried it again a few years ago and same thing... that ride just made me feel really sick.
I then tried it with the Simpsons ride (since its the same machines even) and I felt really sick there too.

Bad job... 3d used to make me feel sick, but Avatar didn't...

spooky181 04-23-2010 06:36 PM

Dizzy and headaches here, pity I love 3D...:thumbsup

La_Sexorcist 04-23-2010 06:42 PM

If it's that really shitty 3D with the red and blue glasses. I get dizzy and a headache.

CaptainHowdy 04-23-2010 06:44 PM

I refuse to go see a 3-D movie...

Some people say this image makes them sick... it's a morph between each side of a 3D image. It's not perfect because I only properly mapped the prominent areas such as the foreground tree trunks, so the background does blur a bit.

FWIW, the image doesn't affect me. :2 cents:

You're obviously blind then.

Spunky 04-23-2010 07:55 PM

the novelty will wear off quickly.who wants to watch TV with those dumb glasses on all the time

brentbacardi 04-23-2010 08:46 PM

3d doesnt make me sick, those amusement rides that with the screen like back to the future dont make me sick, roller coasters dont make me sick. You know the rides where you stick to the wall? Even sitting up in those doesn't make me sick and I know that makes most people sick lol

IDK lol I have a high tolerance for that crap, maybe I should be a fighter pilot, that would probably be fun actually.

Argos88 04-23-2010 08:53 PM

not safe for your eyes..

and no, im not going to back this up with a study.. don't be ridiculous.

if you want to watch 3D, go ahead and watch it all you want, it's your health.

.

Rochard 04-23-2010 08:57 PM

Yeah, sometimes when it's overwelming it's a bit much for me. After watching Avatar, I felt "a little sick" like "maybe I might throw up in an hour" if that makes sense.

I've been on that ride. I never knew that. Kind of interesting.

ShellyCrash 04-23-2010 10:09 PM

3d usually fucks me up, but the newest stuff I seem to be ok with. Did well with Avatar.

I can't do shakey cam at all, worse than 3d. Blair Witch gave me a two day migraine. I can;t watch Dancer in the Dark even on TV, but from what I have heard I didn't miss much.
