Well fuck

...software that I have been using for years has quit working properly...and drag and drop has quit working. I did three system restores and got the drag and drop to working again...but it has already quit again...and the software is still not working properly.

I have not installed anything new...at least intentionally. I am running a full virus scan and malware scan at this time...which will take hours to complete. I am using XP Pro.

Microsoft's support road map currently says that extended support for Windows XP ends in April 2014

Many many businesses are on that OS and do not want to change.

Start > Control Panel > User Accounts > Pathfinder (delete this account)

Then Restart 3 times.

It should work fine after that.

Should have just did a repair install, would have saved you a few hours of backups and program installation.

Since you have a fresh install though, make an image with something like Clonezilla once you get everything setup.
