Police in Silicon Valley have launched an investigation into the lost iPhone prototype that made its way in to the hands of Gizmodo, CNET reported late Friday. Law enforcement officials told the site that criminal laws may have been broken as a result of the transaction, but did not provide much more in the way of detail.

If you buy stolen items - even if you didn't know it was stolen then you could be charged.

Waddymelon 04-24-2010 08:41 PM

If anybody else had lost their phone, the cops wouldnt give a fuck.

and in this case the site that bought the phone printed the story behind the phone and thus must have known it was stolen

Really? That is pretty cool that they paid off the police to get then involved. That Steve Jobs is really smart. Who'd have thought that the 'convincer' for this PR puff would be the actual real po-po?

Clever.

Or maybe, some kid that was testing the prototype, got wasted on German beer and dropped the phone in a bar. And then someone found it and made 5k giving it to a tech blog. And cos doing that is illegal in Calif, the police are now investigating.
