Actually it is more of an example of corporate power running amuck, while the government sits idly by, NOT imposing proper regulations and restrictions. So, really just the opposite of what you stated, but that's cool.

Got it, will watch tonight.

Actually, you have no fucking idea what you are talking about. Why do you think the US is the only country using so much high-fructose corn syrup?

2 reasons:

1) Sugar import tariffs the government has in place to "protect" domestic sugar production. This makes sugar much more expensive than it would be if market forces set the price.

2) Corn subsidies the government has in place to "protect" farmers (in reality a few huge companies) makes corn much cheaper than it otherwise would be if market forces set the price.

And as a result of this "protection" the government has destroyed the health of an entire generation of Americans.

I take the contrarian view. I live in a country with abysmally low agri yields. One of the greatest things, in my view, about America is its stunning ability to feed its people. Low food prices, amazing infrastructure (from farm to postharvest facility to distribution to retail to consumer), and economy of scope and scale that provides a decent living to most of its farmers.

I know the grass is always greener and I *am* familiar with the issues posed by modern factory farming and chemical-dependent agribusiness. Still, just judging from my last visit to family friends in the provinces here in the Philippines struggling to eke out $50 worth of produce from a veggie plot month after month, I can only look with awed envy at American farmers' ability to feed the US.

So Monsanto Corp has nothing to do with it then?

Is Monsanto the reason so much food in America has high-fructose corn syrup in it? No, they are not.

There are a lot of other reasons to dislike much of what Monsanto is up to though...
