What is your favourite tv show of all time?

Hard to pick just one but I am sure mine comes down to West Wing or Red Dwarf. I can't help being a geek.

What is your favourite ever tv show?

Barefootsies 04-26-2010 04:19 AM

Dedi: Core2Duo e5200 2.5Ghz - $175.00

Favorite ever? Hmmm.

That's a tough one to narrow down to in regards to "all time".

Sarah_Jayne 04-26-2010 07:15 AM

Yet, most people don't have a hard time picking a fave movie of all time.

cthulhu_waves 04-26-2010 07:18 AM

I love Survivor. :-)

CarlosTheGaucho 04-26-2010 07:18 AM

If I'd have to say one then it would probably be Twin Peaks

But if I could mention more of those then it would also be
"The Kingdom" from Lars von Trier,
"The Cracker" with Robbie Coltrane

More fun shows and nostalgia I've always been a huge fan of Tatort with Schimanski (cult German 80's series) would even add "The Professionals" (love it by this day)

We recently re-watched Twin Peaks. I think it plays better now if you take away the fashion.

"The Kingdom" from Lars von Trier,

If you are talking about the actual Danish series The Kingdom HELL YES, way better than the US series that Stephen King latched his name onto. Lars is the man.

others-
Twilight Zone (original)
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Night Stalker (original with Darrin Mcgavin)
X Files
Mr. Show
The Prisoner
Ben Stiller Show

really impossible to nail just one.

Sarah_Jayne 04-26-2010 07:54 AM

I am going to reserve allowing Lost into my list until I see how they finish it.

Paul Markham 04-26-2010 08:17 AM

Monty Python either sheer brilliance or sheer nonsense.

He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy.

I loved that show growing up. It probably was foreshadowing of me being such a political person.

Did you know it is a reworking of a British show? Then so it Threes Company (nearly word for word scripts), Sanford and Son and even Who's The Boss.

JackieB 04-26-2010 11:42 AM

There's a show called

Ashes to Ashes in the UK, that's pretty darn good!

JackieB

I have to agree, it's the best show on television :)

It's harder to pick now because my old favorites, I haven't really seen in like forever. If I had to say more of a classic show, I'd say "Married With Children".

moeloubani 04-26-2010 11:57 AM

The Wire, Monk, The Office, Eastbound and Down and Boston Legal

CDSmith 04-26-2010 12:05 PM

"of all time"

That's really the key. Seeing as I'm a child of the 60's I would have to say the one show I've watched over the past fortysomething years more than all others would be Star Trek. The original series aired when I was five or six yrs old and I was hooked. When TNG came out I watched that faithfully, then on through DS9, Voyager, and lately I've even begun catching the odd rerun episode of ST-Enterprise on the Space channel.

So I'll say Star Trek. The entire franchise.

Tons of other shows are favorites of mine though, many of them already mentioned in this thread.

I'll add Get Smart and The Beverly Hillbillies to the list. And Hogan's Heroes. Original series episodes of those 3 were priceless. (and still are)

"of all time" I am going to have to give a throwback to my childhood:

Roseanne

I can still watch it for hours one end when they run a marathon.

J. Falcon 04-26-2010 12:40 PM

Without a doubt The Wire... season 1 - 3 in particular.

Semi-Retired-Dave 04-26-2010 12:49 PM

Gentle Ben was cool.

Yup... "til death do us part" I think is the original UK series.

Most great US shows originated in the UK ;)

Scott McD 04-26-2010 01:36 PM

This is actually an easy one for me. For years now, me and my girlfriend have watched "Friends" over and over again. We never seem to get sick of it.

We of course have the complete Series 1 - 10 boxset, but still find ourselves watching it when it's on tv (usually 2 episodes on E4).

Right this very second I'm obsessed with Weeds (I just discovered it though I know it's been around a while) ... but of all time ... maybe Stark Trek DS9.

Elli 04-26-2010 01:59 PM

Ooo good question. I don't have one stand out favourite, but there are some I can sit down and watch again and again:

The Office (BBC)
Mad Men
MASH
Married With Children
All in the Family
Band of Brothers
The F Word
River Cottage (any season)

I had to think about it, but I think Six Feet Under if I had to pick just one.

Carnivale's first season was amazing. I wish it would have picked up enough of an audience to have kept going at the same pace.

Others I've loved are Arrested Development, Chapelle Show, Unsolved Mysteries, Columbo.

I'm really suprised no one said Sopranos.

Survivor :thumbsup

Awesome season. Down to 6.

Pavarti vs Russell. :) (27 y/o charmer vs 36 y/o millionaire from Houston)

Pavarti who won it all before is a very good player with "charms". :)

Russell otoh makes Johnny Fairplay look like a Boy Scout and is as ruthless as anyone to ever play the game. Russell and Pavarti have had an alliance up until (it looks like) next week.

Should be fun. Finale prob be a week from today.
