+1 for the Canon Rebel.

If you upgrade the body later your lenses will still work.

+2.

They are pretty reasonable on Ebay.

dmhubby 04-30-2010 05:23 PM

You cannot go wrong with the Rebel. I'm on my 3rd one and you can't go wrong, plus it has tons of pro features!

BIGTYMER 04-30-2010 05:27 PM

Nikon D3000 for sure.

MattO 04-30-2010 05:41 PM

I vote Rebel plus you can upgrade the body later and use all the cool lenses you'll end up collecting.

BIGTYMER 04-30-2010 05:43 PM

Fucking Canon scum... You people make me sick! :winkwink:

Viva Nikon!

PersianKitty 04-30-2010 05:57 PM

The new Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2's are great.

I love my Rebel. It completes me ;)

DamnGoodRatio 04-30-2010 07:07 PM

Canon or Nikon they are comparable and whatever fits your hand better is the right choice. I like the way the Canon feels so I have the 7D . . .

Jon Oso 04-30-2010 07:14 PM

I shoot with a Rebel XSi and it works well for me.

What are you shooting? I love Canon for its versatility indoor and outdoor so easy to adjust.
Nikon lenses can't be beat though and are amazing for studio work and all around people stuff, not as versatile as Canon though.

I bought one of each ... I carry the Canon every I go for textures (photoshop) and general purpose outdoor shoots.

The Nikon is my go to for the studio and portrait shoots, even outdoor controlled shoots the Nikon is great.

rebel for sure

baddog 04-30-2010 08:02 PM

Nikon D300

munki 04-30-2010 10:01 PM

+1 for Nikon D line... ultra budget go D40 or D60... few bucks to spend roll D300 +... Get your hands on a few Canon and Nikon setups before you make your ultimate purchase... In the camera world this is a very Mac/PC thing... you find your fit and stick to it for life, make sure you've got the right fit out the door, and not someone elses... Me Personally I'm a Nikon man.

The T2i should be available soon, if it isn't already.

I got a Canon 50D on ebay for 1/2 of what it goes for retail.

I bought this one, as I'm not a pro and didn't want to spend $1500 on a lens right out of the gate.

I've been using a Nikon D70s for several years now. You can't go wrong with Nikon. You can't go wrong with Canon either.

ya the t2i is out here, 999$ versus t1i $799

kaori 05-01-2010 02:07 PM

Yeah, I just bought a T2I... on sale with lens, $899 CAD.... Love it!!!
ordered a 18-135 lens for it as well, which is a nice upgrade...
that being said, I think the only real difference between t2i and t1i is the video quality..

where did you pick up yours?

kaori 05-01-2010 04:13 PM

bestbuy - traded in an old $5 digital camera from a convention for the $100 off..
it's currently on sale at adencamera.com for that price though... if you're in the east, you can price match at futureshop using Aden...

Adam_M 05-01-2010 04:17 PM

Canon is my choice as well.

AaronM 05-01-2010 04:20 PM

I've posted this before and I'll probably post it again...

When shooting 35mm, I had training from both Canon and Nikon and was trained as a Nikon Advanced System Specialist. As far as film and 35mm are concerned, I'm a die hard Nikon fan.

However....Canon has superior digital products which is why I've been using and recommending them for years.

Back in the day, all the sports guys, NatGeo, etc...used Nikon. These days, most of them have switched to Canon.

Sid70 05-01-2010 04:25 PM

jk. Good luck with it man! Its a great camera. :)

Si 05-01-2010 08:04 PM

I'm thinking of selling off my e510 for a XSI-2 or 50d.

Canon have taken over.

Post some pics up when you get a chance fris :thumbsup

candyflip 05-01-2010 08:05 PM

Awesome choice. I'd have waited and gotten one but got a great deal on the 50D. I'm going to pick one up shortly.

We've got a collection of lenses started and a second body would be nice...especially one that shoots 1080p video.

fris 05-01-2010 08:31 PM

18-200mm lens looks nice, was gonna pick it up, but I spent way too much already this week on hardware

Check out the one I posted. It's pretty well reviews and has a bigger range. Costs about 1/2 what the Canon 18-200 does.

DamnGoodRatio 05-03-2010 06:18 PM

Never ever skimp on Glass. Once you shoot with an "L" series Canon lenses or a top of the line Nikkor lens, you will trash all the others and wonder why you didn't spend the money up front for the best and they will last forever...

dont think they have a 18-200mm L series, i did see a 70-200mm, not much more.

EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS $699
EF 70-200mm f/4L USM $799

leg4 05-04-2010 12:54 AM

I use the Sony Dsc-r1... love it.
