Define 'fast'.

Spunky 05-02-2010 10:08 PM

Nice to have a fast car but unless you can give er,you can't in the city,it's an expensive useless toy.

mmcfadden 05-02-2010 10:15 PM

its my gf parents car and they offered it to her. She likes to drive fast and thinking it may be to much motor for her

TidalWave 05-02-2010 10:43 PM

how fast is fast? i would say thats OK... not blazing fast, faster than a toyota...

papill0n 05-02-2010 11:07 PM

really depends on what bhp it is producing and what sort of driving experience your gf has

Koodoo 05-02-2010 11:08 PM

faster than average care I suppose.

Loch 05-02-2010 11:13 PM

your GF is Swedish?

Some real life stats -

That motor will probably put down 310-325 rwhp with a 6spd if it's properly taken care of.

The clutch is not cheap. Neither is fixing the transmission or the rear end as it's all one piece.

It should run mid-bottom 13s with anyone behind the wheel that has a clue.

If she likes fast cars she'll love that, it's fast enough to make you pay attention but you have to be a serious noob to kill yourself in one. If she has any respect for driving a 3400 lb vehicle she should be fine.

It's the same motor I had in my car when it was stock and it's quick but not deadly.

My car now makes about 250hp more than stock and it's way more violent and you REALLY have to pay attention.

If she doesn't want it I do LOL

it's a medium fast car.... I can pull out of my driveway, hammer the gas and slide sideways down the street for about 100 ft easy.. been driving a 2004 vette with auto tranny for 6 years, love it. have 125k on it with very little problems. crank and cam sensors had to be replaced and then just the routine stuff like tuneups, tires, brakes etc... very very reliable car

it will run faster than 95% of anything on the road and it will kill you if you fuck with it. if you treat the car with respect and don't do stupid stuff the on-board computer will handle the hp just fine. never have driven mine on ice though.

Thanks for the reply! She needs a car bc her miles are over in a lease and her parents don't drive the corvette.

I told her she can drive my vw and I would give the corvette the lovin it needs ;)

Women cant drive for shit so i wouldn't suggest that care. She'll probably kill herself in it.

I've been around GM products for the last 4-5 years, had two Camaro SS's and a V6 one, both the SS versions had the exact same motor as in that Vette, just weighed more.

My old roommate had a 99 Vette with a ton of work done to it.

They're fun to mod, fun to drive stock - all depends on what you're looking for. The picture above is around a 650whp configuration and was daily driven until he drove it through a flooded part of the street and seized the motor.

As long as she puts the right fuel in it, keeps the traction control on and doesn't ride the clutch like a $2 whore she should be fine. There's a reason the majority of Vette owners are 40 and older.

Do you know if it's a Z06 or a regular C5 vette? Judging by the HP rating I'm assuming it's not a Z06 but then again I don't know how all the fancy european or whatever ratings translate over.

michael.kickass 05-03-2010 09:48 AM

It is fast enough for me. :2 cents:

Everything he said except a targa top is closer to 3250lbs and a FRC, (fixed roof coupe) is under 3200lbs.

I'd save your cash and buy a 2002+ C5 Z06.

I have no idea...

mmcfadden 05-03-2010 09:41 PM

Appreciate all the input!

"Do you know if it's a Z06 or a regular C5 vette?" No idea... just what I posted which was in swedish. I'm sure it was bought in the states and she would be crazy not to take it right now...
