Do you get your friends/family and so on asking you for "Software" ????

I get this shit all the time "Hey Ii need MS Office" or programs along that line...

Best one is I need top of line Antivirus "can you get it"

Listen back in the day and I am sure in the past many of you as well as myself have used "warez" related downloads and so on...

But when things got serious , I turned around and actually buy licenses for anything that i need for my business...

Now what ticks me off is when I tell them "No sorry" they give you a guilty type feeling...

One case for example , friend of mine needed some program... he owns business and doing "ok" as in not rich but living comfortably ... I told him spend the fucking $150 for the damn software especially if you will be using it for business stuff..

They cant grasp the concept of listen i paid for it I have the license and I cant "give you " my license for obvious reasons...

[end of rant]

I was at a BBq last summer, and my wife's aunt asked where I could get a copy of Photoshop. I told her "Adobe".

Nope. I've run various forms of UNIX for years. They ask for Office, I give them OpenOffice.

They've learned not to ask except when they're cheapasses.

Sly 05-05-2010 05:23 PM

I always get "where can I buy such and such?"

Every time I reply: eBay or Amazon Marketplace

Yet they keep asking.

enozgirl 05-05-2010 07:34 PM

I just had this happen. It's annoying when it's family. It's worse when it's someone who is asking for it for business reasons, and they're just too cheap to go to Best Buy and buy the damned Office Suite themselves, especially when they can simply write it off as a business expense.

Some people's kids.

Its kinda annoying. most of the time i give them the free software.. or the portable version.

Gambrinus 05-05-2010 09:30 PM

I'm the guy that says "Sure, make a list". So we balance each other out. Whenever a relative or a friend has bunged their machine up with malware so bad it barely runs, I just wipe the hd and install the latest scene release from wbb and call it good.

I had an elderly aunt call up MS for some support issue and those cunts duped her into around 500 bucks worth the garbage she didnt need. Since then Ill fuck MS in any way shape or form that I can. Im doing at least a couple dozen or so installs a year for family and friends.

marketsmart 05-06-2010 08:03 AM

9 out of 10 times i will give them my "hardware" and i give it to them real nice...

okok 05-06-2010 08:41 AM

My mom won't install a file sharing app because she's afraid the Feds will get her for downloading Peter, Paul, and Mary tunes.... so she asks me to find songs and email them to her. :D

ottopottomouse 05-06-2010 11:47 AM

Yes.

They ask for all sorts of things. Want free computer repairs and rebuilds. And worst of all go round telling people that I will fix their retarded websites for them :(

I use OpenOffice anyway and end up being the one ringing someone if I have a problem with MS Office :1orglaugh

That remind me to microsoft ads for anti piracy or anti linux where they claim how you cant get support if you use pirate version or how linux is maybe free but support cost more.
Bullshit in both cases, especially in first one where you even cant get support if you don't use latest version of windows.
