Google has new ads on the left side after search

Does this annoy anyone?

I read a newspaper article written by person who does not like it.

a newspaper shows recent news and events

96ukssob 05-06-2010 12:23 PM

i love it :2 cents:

its great to actually search for something and find related articles and not some BS on about.com or ehow.com

ladida 05-06-2010 12:30 PM

It is VERY annoying. Did not appear in the older browser, so i'm gona downgrade. It's that annoying.

LOL, that was funny.

LeRoy 05-06-2010 12:34 PM

Yah sux big time.

Ayla_SquareTurtle 05-06-2010 12:34 PM

I don't see ads, but I do sometimes get the "everything bar" on the left side. Takes up waaaay too much room, and I don't need/use it.

I delete my cookies and it goes away, but I'm sure they'll make it a permanent fixture eventually.

Davy 05-06-2010 12:38 PM

I noticed the column only a few minutes ago. I do not like it.

ajapub 05-06-2010 12:41 PM

Is this only for certain search terms? I'm not getting any links or ads when I search G...

Juicy D. Links 05-06-2010 12:41 PM

if you are using google chrome btw there is a extension that will make it disappear

Ayla_SquareTurtle 05-06-2010 12:42 PM

Damnit, it just came back and won't go away when I delete cookies. Guess it's here to stay.

BSleazy 05-06-2010 12:44 PM

It screwed up one of the seo plugins i use :(

UFGators2007 05-06-2010 12:46 PM

I don't see any ads, but they do feature a left-side navigation, akin to what Bing has done. So far, the links don't add much value to my searches, except for the date filters, which I use frequently.

I think they just have so many tools at this point, that they're in need of more on-page 'real estate'.

You can buy a paper newspaper or you can get news online from trusted sources such as http://www.news.google.com (which includes CNN in search results) and http://www.cnn.com.

SCORE Ralph 05-06-2010 02:17 PM

A lot of the options added were already available, they were just condensed/tucked away. I think most people are annoyed due to the fact that it forces your eyes to scan the page for the content that you're used to seeing stacked on the left side. Definitely an annoyance.

rowan 05-06-2010 04:40 PM

An article I read yesterday showed a screenshot with one of the columns filled with Twitter results! :1orglaugh Quality stuff!

CBunny 05-06-2010 04:41 PM

I don't like it. Too cluttered.

Meeper 05-06-2010 04:51 PM

They just made the options for your search more visible rather than being completely tucked away. its not THAT bad. Did anyone notice that you can do a google image search by color now? Pretty insane.

TeenCat 05-06-2010 05:00 PM

i have been pissed about it yesterday, tried to search around and looks like there is some plugin for firefox, but not sure how that works ... anyway this is totally fucked up, as its only duplicated menu from top left and the results are much more chaotic ... fuck off google, we owe you but this is a bad bad move ... :2 cents:

nickutis 05-06-2010 05:04 PM

My eyes are burning because of this additional column. Shit :\

SpongeBub 05-06-2010 05:05 PM

Google ... Google ... didn't there used to be a search engine called Google? I wouldn't know - I switched to Bing about a year ago and tend to forget there are any other search engines out there. See, I refuse to help the evil empire grow stronger.

CYF 05-06-2010 05:05 PM

I read a forum post that this annoyed someone.

Google image search by color? What is this? No, I did not notice such a thing.

However, I would like to point out that the Google Adwords search results appear higher in the rankings than any usual results. The Google Adwords results are in a different font color, which could make surfers click them more often.

seeandsee 05-06-2010 05:13 PM

i hate new look out

Ya do an image search for anything. On the new left hand navigation there is color squares to sort images by color. Pretty insane.

fatfoo 05-08-2010 10:25 AM

Google is a search engine, yes.

BIGTYMER 05-08-2010 11:27 AM

I don't like the new look at all.

I also don't like that they are now sticking ads on fast flip.
