omg... A good friend of mine just told me he inherited $4.2M

My friend, who I have known for over 20 years, just told me that he had inherited $4.2M and needed to borrow some money from me to pay for some bank transfer fee... anyone care to guess what really happened? He told me he has already sent them over $20k... and he won't believe anything I say now that I told him that he has been a victim of a nigerian scam... he even quit his job... I am just baffled at how anyone I know would fall for that stupid shit.

Barefootsies 05-07-2010 10:24 AM

sojproductions 05-07-2010 11:02 AM

in all the years that craps been going on I never heard of someone falling for it... please say it aint so

Jim_Gunn 05-07-2010 11:03 AM

I overheard one of the local BofA bank managers pleading with an older lady in the bank lobby a while back not to withdraw a large sum of money from her savings account to wire overseas for "processing fees" to collect her windfall of money. I bet they deal with this all the time.

pradaboy 05-07-2010 11:05 AM

Noooo you have to be joking.

Loch 05-07-2010 11:05 AM

this must be a joke.....

MrBottomTooth 05-07-2010 11:06 AM

That's pathetic if true. I can see an 80 year old senile person falling for a scam like this, the same ones they target with crap like publishers clearing house, but that's about it.

Every time I read those, I think to myself... "weird.. I just spoke to my grandmother 30 minutes ago and she was still chirpy as can be!" :1orglaugh

Haven't people seen that Adam Sandler movie? They don't e-mail you.. they fly to wherever you're at with a helicopter and give you a mansion to live in. :error

Machete_ 05-07-2010 11:07 AM

great example of natural selection at work

SmokeyTheBear 05-07-2010 11:08 AM

it is like a drug to some people, a was at a party one time and somehow we got on the conversation of nigerian email scams and this guy pipes up about this deal he had going that was a textbook nigerian money scam , but no matter how hard we explained it to him the dude just did not get it. " but the email was from the head of the united nations oil recovery program", " don't worry this isn't like that , this is real". He never would tell us how much he had sent , it took awhile to get him to admit he had sent them any money, then once we found out and laughed he wouldnt tell us how much , " i didn't send them any money , but i did pay a filing fee for the papers to someone else"

alias 05-07-2010 11:10 AM

Fucking noobz.

paymeback 05-07-2010 11:13 AM

I doubt this is a joke, heaps of people get fooled into this shit every single day

LeRoy 05-07-2010 11:21 AM

Time to break up a long time friendship...

Cyandin 05-07-2010 11:58 AM

ruh roh....

Klen 05-07-2010 11:58 AM

Well i would say this happening because of "worker" mentality-people who have jobs usually dont care how money for their salary coming and how it's created.Same thing on nigerian scam-they dont think is that real or not, they just follow instructions like they would do on work place.

TELL YOUR FRIEND TO CALL HIS BANK AND TELL THEM HES BEEN SCAMMED!

He might have a chance of recovering the funds if they were wire transferred to another bank account :2 cents:

scarlettcontent 05-07-2010 12:07 PM

I thought eveyone knew about this scam, its been around for decades, its still going around in spam emails :(

PR_Glen 05-07-2010 12:16 PM

who would ever believe this shit that's sent by email? surely they have been spammed before, and since when do lawyers of any kind contact people via email anyway? Be easier to find peoples phone numbers than emails.

This isn't a joke... it's 100% true. My friend isn't a webmaster... he is a factory worker. He totally got took by con men who even went so far as to look up his family tree and identify someone who had money so that they could tell my friend to check his family tree himself. It's sad, really. I have no idea why anyone would ever buy into it... but my friend certainly did along with his ex wife and mother who lent him money to pay this scam artist... this world is crazy.

RRRED 05-07-2010 12:27 PM

I saw some guy on that shoe, "Intervention" who was spilling his entire life savings over to those guys over months of time.. hundreds of thousands.. just like another addiction. They get some sort of rush from it. Some people are pretty vulnerable.

skinnay 05-07-2010 12:28 PM

what year is it?

nation-x 05-07-2010 12:38 PM

The funny thing is that he called me for a loan to pay this shit... I told him it was a scam... I have gotten at least 3-4 phone calls from his ex wife and mother yelling at me to stop feeding him full of negativity... "This has been verified"... because the scammer has a partner who has called them on multiple occasions... including this afternoon.

FreeHugeMovies 05-07-2010 12:39 PM

Go give him a blowjob

Poor guy. I was just speaking to my business rep at Chase the other day regarding this. I live on the rich side of town and they said they will get 1-2 older people in there every month trying to withdraw 20k to send away and get their inheritance. I am truly amazed people fall for this also, I must have received thousands of those letter dating back to like 2000.

LiveDose 05-07-2010 01:05 PM

I can't believe even one person has ever fallen for that stupid scam.
