My Chihuahua disloacted his jaw today
 

My little guy was laying on my chest today and we were watching a movie and he took a big yawn and then couldn't close his mouth right. He kept licking out the side of his mouth. It was awful.

At first I wasn't sure what had happened. I thought maybe he had something stuck in the side of his cheek, but no, sure enough he had popped it out of alignment.

So I've got him in my arms, trying to keep him calm and act like nothings wrong. Making my second phone call to try to see who's the best emergency vet to take him to and wammo- somehow as magically as he had fucked it up, it was fixed.

He was mopey and upset for about an hour or so. Couldn't even get him to take some honey. But he napped, and seems to be doing fine. Just saw him eating some food balls a moment ago so he's A-OK.

Just thought I would share since that is some freaky shit. Dogs yawn all the time. Mine mostly do it as a form of communication. Never known this to happen to anyone else.

I went mtbiking with a friend yesterday who fell and dislocated his shoulder, about 7 hours of pain and was knocked out with propofol before the ER could put it back in place. Fuck dislocating anything!!

Well that is downright bizarre but I am glad it fixed itself and she was back to her old self in an hour.

Emergency vets aren't cheap -- I bet you're glad it resolved on its own, too!

When he was a puppy he broke his elbow playing with my best friend's chi.

I don't know exactly how much it wound up putting me back all total, but the surgery- he had to have a pin and a screw- cost me over $3,000.

That night I took him to the emergency vet, then to my regular vet the following day, and then to a specialty vet hospital about an hour away. It sounds like alot $$, but he had busted a chip off the bone at the elbow and on the growth plate, so it was either that or leave him w/ a gimp arm that might have to be amputated.

I love my guys. So glad this didn't hit my wallet. When bad shit happens I just fall into the zone of acceptance, gotta do what you gotta do... but my sig other was seeing the dollar signs and shaking his head. Dodged a bullet bigtime :thumbsup

Just such a weird thing, it may sound like I'm over reacting, but he couldn't close his mouth for probably at least 15 - 20 minutes.
