Do you get this WordPress spam?

The logic behind this spam escapes me. It's random gibberish, the URLs are not registered or hosted and I get hundreds of these a day. Askismet filters them into our spam queue, I am still puzzled as to what purpose these spam attacks serve.

Ideas?

its called spam tasting, they try and see if the comment gets through, and if it passes, they will do real links

I figured so much, but also would expect for the "tasters" to quit trying after the 40,000th spam taste that fails.
