Teacher Fired Over Student Beating Video

HOUSTON - It's a story you saw First on FOX: A charter school has fired one of its teachers -- accused of beating up a student on video.

A classmate captured the entire incident on their cell phone.

The teacher in question, identified by school officials as Sherri Davis, was officially terminated on Monday night.

?Now that officials at Jamie?s House Charter School have been able to review the video on Fox News, we are horrified at the actions of the teacher,? principal David Jones said in a statement.

The video, shared with FOX 26 News by a parent, shows a sixth grade student being kicked and pummeled. The student's parent says the video is now in the hands of Harris County Sheriff's investigators. She says the teacher attacked 13-year-old Isaiah Johnson at the north Harris County charter school in late April.

"I'm horrified. I just can't believe something like that would happen to my child," Alesha Johnson told FOX 26 News.

The attack goes on for nearly a minute. Isaiah Johnson said it felt much longer.

"I was on the wall like this trying to get away from her and she started hitting me, banging my head to the wall and kicking me," Isaiah said.

"He's had a knot on his head for a week. He had a black eye, bruises on his cheek," Alesha added.

Other children in the class were watching and videotaping the attack. You can even hear some laughing.

The alleged incident happened just after TAKS testing two weeks ago.

Isaiah Johnson said it all started as he and other classmates watched and laughed as a mentally challenged girl danced.

That's when he says the teacher attacked the 13-year-old. Isaiah said he was beaten by the teacher, with other teachers looking on, right there in the classroom.

"The teachers piled up and they were looking over each others shoulders just watching," Isaiah said.

David Jones, the principal of the school, released a statement later in the day.

"There is no excuse for a teacher to behave in this way with a child," Jones said. "Although we had already removed the teacher from the classroom and put her on administrative duty, we now plan to terminate the teacher and make an apology to the student and his mother."

Jones said the school will be investigating whether other teachers saw the incident and did not report it.

Alesha Johnson has taken the tape and filed criminal charges with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Jamie's House Charter School is a Texas Accredited Charter School. It opened in 1999 and is currently in good standing.

i dunno, it seems like they are playing around at first but the backstory doesn't fit

SmokeyTheBear 05-13-2010 09:46 AM

if that was indeed an attack all those teachers watching should have been fired, nobody stepped in or said anything. Then again the kid probably deserved it.

Cyber Fucker 05-13-2010 09:51 AM

Yea... it doesn't look like serious fight.

My son had a teacher throw a book at him when he was in the 4th grade and I went into that school ready to choke someone to damn death. When I spoke to his principal and guidance counselor they swore to me no such thing happened. So I said get that teacher in here. She came in and immediately said she had done it. The counselor and principal had no idea what to say next and basically told me he must have deserved it. He hadn't finished all of his homework and she got pissed, that is why it happened. They tried to blow it off until I asked them if he came to school and told them I had thrown a book at his head, what would they do. They'd have him removed from my care is what they'd do. I had him moved to a new classroom and she was fired....... but it was put on record that she retired. I didn't care as long as my last child in line wasn't going to have to deal with her, or any other child, she was gone.

Laughing at a mentally challenged child is tolerable at any level, but neither is beating a child.... those kids should have damn well been reprimanded, but not beaten like that. Ouch!!

Haha I'm with ya... kid making fun of a mentally handicapped girl dancing deserves a good beating...

When I was in junior high school a million years ago, this kind of shit was standard procedure. The principal & vice principal themselves were known for slamming kids against lockers, threatening them, sometimes even smacking the shit out of them.

It was not unusual to us in any way. Scary, yes. But not unusual.

:2 cents:

EDIT: I eventually got even with the vice principal a few years later when I fucked his daughter at a hockey game.

I'm sure that kid with the jew-fro has gotten worse on the bus ride to school

rogueteens 05-13-2010 10:44 AM

yeah, that kid deserved it.

cykoe6 05-13-2010 10:50 AM

The kid probably had it coming. Kids today are mindless little sneering sociopaths. Their souls have been destroyed by over consumption of porn, violence and video games. A beating is the best thing in the world that could happen to them....... might save them from a life in the penitentiary. :2 cents:

Why is that teacher wearing street clothes?

The back story and the video don't really make a lot of sense. Something seems pretty off.

Aside from that, surely I can't be the only one that thinks more 13-year-olds could use a beating every now and then? LOL.

I think it's more like their minds have been destroyed by the lack of parenting skills out there and the inability for a parent to even lay a hand on their kids...

That is also a good point. Many parents have competently abdicated responsibility for raising their own children and believe it is up to the school system to do the job for them. Obviously that is a recipe for disaster.

More likely the parents could use a beating every now and then for how they raise kids nowadays.

kristin 05-13-2010 11:24 AM

I was surprised that was the teacher. I mean the boxers hanging out the back of a chick's pants says higher education all over it.

Sigh.

LoveSandra 05-13-2010 11:27 AM

beat the fucker

You forgot video games and tv... oh and the internet. Anything that does NOT involve them to be hands on with their children themselves. :Oh crap

But I agree with this so much. I have yet to see one child my kids hang around with that actually have parents that even know where the hell their kids are, much less what they are doing. And if I am so lucky to find a parent like that, I hold onto them for dear life.

I pulled my kids out of public schools completely this school year and while I was so worried about their social lives, they have both excelled in this subject and have more friends than ever. And shockingly, their attitudes have made drastic improvements. No teachers picking on them, or teaching them their warped sense of right and wrong.

It is a PARENTS job to mold kids, and have support from others, not make it up to others to raise them. Everything about kids these days is really warped and parents have no one to blame but themselves.

Had those boys been taught right from wrong at home, they wouldn't have been laughing in the first place. All of them are victims of their parents most likely... until someone else lays a hand on them and THEN they want to be involved.

This subject matter really hits me in the gut, sorry. lol

wo weird ..looks like they play in the beginning

kmanrox 05-13-2010 02:48 PM

talk about sensationlism in the media... the kid was smiling the whole time.. i think the video was taken out of context... the kid was probably a mean bastard who like to jokingly smack the gym teacher around or something.. that's my speculation.

USA needs to grow some balls.. you're too conservative..

When I was in early years school "the strap" was still legal, which meant that if someone was naughty enough they copped a leathery belt across their backside. There was actually a specific device for doing this that was kept in the office. Our principal would occasionally bring it in if he'd heard someone was misbehaving, just to warn people... or rather threaten...

Seems pretty barbaric in today's PC society but as per your experience it was normal back then.

I agree, does look a bit like play wrestling, but how do you explain the black eye and bruises?

"Alesha Johnson has taken the tape and filed criminal charges with the Harris County Sheriff's Office."

That's a nice change, usually it's a civil suit for $$$. :2 cents: Or maybe that's still coming. :2 cents:

When I was that young ,I got the strap..damn punks nowadays need discipline
