Give me a better server-offer than this!
Can anyone beat this server offer?
This is for a fully MANAGED server. CPU: Core2Quad Q9300 QUAD CORE 2.5GHZ 1333FSB Memory: 8GB DDR2 RAM (I need at least 8 GB RAM) Hard Drive: 1TB SATA Bandwidth: 4000GB / Month (I do not need 4TB, ~2TB would be fine) IPs: 5 I prefer the controlpanel Webmin. (I do NOT want crappy bloated CPanel) Price: $119.95/mo Can anyone beat this price? |
cpanel is nice, but yeah.... slow as fuck.

Ask zak from yellowfiber, best prices, best service. Ive been hosting with them for a long time. Average response time when i needed some extras: 2 minutes :)
|
I'm using vDeck 4 now, and it's slow as fuck too.
|
I'm also shopping for a managed server for a tube site so I'm keeping an eye on this thread, although I personally don't mind CPanel. What company made you the original offer?

I don't know if anyone else has told you this yet, but if not, I would strongly suggest you take the following facts into consideration. Let's do a cursory overview of what costs go into a server like the one you're talking about, from the hosts perspective. 1. The server itself, even at a good deal, will cost around $1k to procure. 2. 4TB of bandwidth is over 10mbps, but I'll be conservative and call it 10mbps. That 10mbps, even for a large host will cost them a little money. 3. The cost of rackspace, power and cooling (if the server is in a SAS70 Type-II certified DC - less if it's in someones basement) will typically run around $20-40/mo per U of space. 4. Shipping for one server like that will probably be around $20. 5. Depending on how many tickets you submit, and how well staffed the hosts support department is, the average cost in labor you might generate could fluctuate from less than $20/mo to well over $200/mo due to time spent working on your tickets. Now, is this server was sold to you at $120/mo, minus the cost of rackspace, power and cooling, you're already under $100/mo. At this rate, you can see that after you figure in support costs since its a managed server, the host is looking at anywhere from 11-15 months or more to make back the money they spent on your server. A 11-15 month ROI on any deal that does not have a contract length of at least 24 months is simply bad business. I know you want to get a good deal, and I would never discourage you from being a wise consumer and shopping around. However, it would greatly behoove you to consider these things when choosing a host, because I think you would agree that the apparent benefit of saving $50-100/mo on your server pales in comparison to the damage you would suffer a the hands of poor support, dramatically oversold bandwidth, or a flat out "tits up" scenario. If you have any questions, please feel free to ICQ, email, or call me directly at 512-686-3051. :) |

You want better than $119 for that? You are kidding. That is a very low price, and you should be weary of the service especially because you are going to be relying on them for the management.
The machine they are selling you is also older parts, thus the reason they can sell it at $119. They've had it for a while already and just want to blow it out (and apparently their only method of competing is on price.... which is a very bad way to do business). I bet you that you will be moving out of there before the 1 year mark due to service. |

What about the cost to acquire that new customer (advertising, initial support costs, sales commissions, cost of the server sitting empty, etc)? It's just like renting a house, you don't want to lose a tenant/customer because of the costs associated with finding another. |
I just looked up my old server and the specs is exactly the same as the new server I'm interested in, but the one I currently got is a unmanaged server:
Core2Quad Q9300 QUAD CORE 2.5GHZ 1333FSB 8GB 1TB SATA 4000GB/MONTH IPs: 5 $99.95/month. The resellers is probably working with the same datacenter. I had this server for several months and there have been zero problems so far so I'm not sure the new server I'm looking at have a price that's too good to be true. For all of you that want to know where I found this server, I will tell you after I'm done with the deal. :winkwink: |
Emil, please tell us where can we get server like this!
|
not interested in matching it or beating it here :)
|
cpanel is a must have

Unfortunately, there is not way for me to beat that price quoted. However, most of my tube site clients do opt for this server as their initial box. Once they get more content on their site, we can add in memory/storage as needed and upgrade bandwidth as well. Quote:

For all of you that wanted to know the host, it's http://www.makosolutions.com/
I wouldn't put anything important there, they seem to be a bit slow to answer sales-mails and for me it's a red flag... (that I ignored this time) |
