Windows 7 : 64 or 32 bit, and why?
just bought a new rig, need to put an OS on it - I'm going with Windows 7.
32 or 64 bit? |
64 bit if you have the ram of course....
First of all start thinking about which software / hardware you are going to need. Some programs still don't have a 64bit version and some hardware still doesn't have 64 bit drivers...
Yeah but if it doesnt have a 64 bit version it will still run on 32.... photoshop for example has 64bit version and it allows the use of all your ram for the program instead of just some of it. Or at least thats what I always thought. Having 64bit doesnt not allow you to run 32 bit programs.
I just got my first 64 bit system a few months back, it works exactly the same as any other windows computer I have ever had except when available I download the 64 bit version of a program or whatever. I dont see any downside at all. |
64bit :thumbsup

You want 12GB of RAM, 32bit will only recognize about 3GB, so you really have no choice but to use a 64bit OS.

32 bit can only use 4 gb of ram. If you want more ram you need a 64 bit OS.
fuck it... a piece of shit for many reason
64 bit. More RAM and why buy a computer that is already obsolete? You can't even run some CS5 apps on a 32 bit OS now.
64 bit. You can utilize more ram.
64 bit if you plan on installing Adobe CS5 suite. You won't be able to install Premerie or After Effects and maybe some other stuff.
64 of course, adobe cs5 some programs won't run on 32 and that's only one of gazzilion reasons..
get WIN7 128 Ultimate HD ClearWay Turbo MicroUnload ClashData 3D SuperiorRam version

You're limited to 3.5 Gb of RAM with 32bit. This includes video card RAM, by the way. So if you've got a 1 Gb video card, you'll only be able to utilise 2.5 Gb of system memory. Ram's so cheap. There's no reason not to be using at least 6 gig these days if your computer can support it.
Go 64Bit, you can use far more memory... Nuff Said!

go to m-soft win7 page and read about the difference b/n 32 and 64 - your processor must be 64-ready and it might not be, it's not only about ram |
Just got an all-in-one 23" Quad core with 8 gigs of DDR3 ram ... 64 bits obviously ... runs fast ..
Previous 32 bits OS on old pc only saw 3 gigs of ram out of the 4 ... |
When I first switched to 64 I had a few troubles. Some programs didn't run and others just didn't run very well (vlc player, etc). But for the last 6 months I haven't had any problems running anything, and the extra ram is always handy.
I have 32 on my laptop. It only recognizes 3 gigs of my 4 gigs of ram.
