Android vs Iphone

I'm going to make the choice, but I need more input. I have Ipod Touch and Google G1 so I know basics but what bothers me a lot ( and it's not multitasking at all ) is this:

- Has the touch interface of new Android devices became more responsive and precise since G1 phone?
- Has virtual keyboard on Android improved since G1 to Iphone usability level?

And most important, and I assume Apple did a lot of researh in that area, why the heck icons on iphone fit my fingers perfect while android on G1 ones are always a little smaller to call them perfect size?

_Richard_ 05-19-2010 08:09 AM

htc is a great product!

MaDalton 05-19-2010 08:09 AM

i got the Sony Xperia X10 and it's quite ok

Choopa Phil 05-19-2010 08:11 AM

i went from an iphone to a droid and i will never look back. Android > Iphone

Serge Litehead 05-19-2010 08:11 AM

android contents based on screen ratio and dpi, so theoretically when you get new device with larger screen (resolution), icons should be proportionally larger, but i maybe wrong

Dirty Lord 05-19-2010 08:12 AM

android, aways better ;)

slayer69 05-19-2010 08:16 AM

iphone best ever. Just don't leave it in cabs.

Shok 05-19-2010 08:18 AM

People who say that Iphone is better, just have not tried an Android phone.

Iphone is so 2006

Android all the way

candyflip 05-19-2010 08:19 AM

There are a bunch of virtual keyboads for Android. My favorite is Swype. It's pretty amazing how it works.

http://www.swypeinc.com

My Samsung Moment is pretty responsive. As responsive as the old iPhone I have for testing purposes.

Iphone and G1 have probably the same resolution.
Iphone places the icons closer while G1 has more space between them.

This is not helping.

I can assure everyone that G1 touch interface is not that smooth and accurate as Iphones. I can even say Iphones interface works far better then G1s. Asking if the new Android phones came closer to Iphone in terms of finger operation quality ( not masturbation )!!!???

I'm quite happy with my Motorola CliqXT running Android and have no issues with the keyboard... :pimp

Shok 05-19-2010 08:31 AM

I got the Motorola Cliq.

Yeah, I'm thinking G1 style, when I need to type real email not just a short message virtual keyboard is not helping at all. So, I will see into Motorola CLiq too, what about battery life? Same old 2 days max?

while iphone has limited screen options (may only vary with next gen upgrades), android has to support various screen resolutions and screen densities
http://developer.android.com/guide/p...ort.html#range
which from looks of it don't affect size of icons like i thought above)

Serge Litehead 05-19-2010 08:49 AM

get ipad ;)

brentbacardi 05-19-2010 08:50 AM

Android gets my vote! Check out the new htc on sprint the 4G EVO, thats a sick ass phone, or if you want a physical keyboard check out the droid or the samsung moment(<what i have and i love it)!

At least on the samsung moment they just came out with the new software which im sure the EVO has too, not sure about droid. Its way better, so the phone you were fucking around with before was probably the old software anyways.....

Serge Litehead 05-19-2010 08:51 AM

anyone got HTC HD2 ?? how's it running?

Shok 05-19-2010 08:51 AM

battery life on my cliq was about 1 full day with normal use.

With wifi and GPS on, I would go about 6 hours.

I just added the new update plus downloaded the advanced task killer and now I can go about 2 days with normal use

That picture is just a trick. The screen sizes are at least about the same, notice the phones held on different heights. :error

plus the iphones icons expand out to the borders of where the icon can go while the android generally has normal windows type icons that are not all squares. They look like they take up about the same size in space I think, iphone a little larger though, that appears to be true i guess.

BestXXXPorn 05-19-2010 08:57 AM

iPhone all the way if you're interested in apps and games... The development community for iPhone is by far the best right now...

Hopefully other platforms will gain more support... I'm not really an apple fan :P

Android will hit market hard in next few years , they will be top notch

Sid70 05-19-2010 08:58 AM

these iphones icons being larger make bank to me.

Android is already outselling Iphones 28 to 24%

As for apps, they have everything I can think of and 99% are free

Babaganoosh 05-19-2010 09:22 AM

I used to have an iphone but I gave it up because AT&T sucked shit. I went to Verizon and got my Motorola Droid and love it.

Having used both over the last year I can assure you that Android is better than iphone.

How many Android phones are on the market right now? Like 15? And how many iphones can you buy right now? 2. I think those numbers are a bit misleading.

iphones are made by one company and sold by one carrier. Of course Apple is going to lose this one but they only have themselves to blame.

Android is a superior OS and is available on multiple carriers with multiple devices.

cyber 05-19-2010 10:17 AM

G1 came out a LONG time ago.

Wait until June 6 when the HTC Evo is coming out!

It has a 4.3" screen AND 4G speeds!

LoveSandra 05-19-2010 10:29 AM

great product...

zEn84 05-19-2010 10:31 AM

I'm waiting for the Htc evo 4g

Yep...2 years old now. And it will still run the current Android as of just a few days ago.

bufferover 05-19-2010 10:48 AM

I'm more for the Iphone

xxweekxx 05-19-2010 10:56 AM

for someone who has access to both, My Droid is way better than Iphone

Its quicker, (you can root it and run it at 1GHZ) thousands of apps, (99% are free)

gps feature is sick, google maps is nice, browsing is nice, camera is nice..

cant complain.. im using my phone for so much shit is not even funny.. only if it could suck me off, id stop fuckin with girls

slapass 05-19-2010 11:34 AM

Maybe it is time to switch but I love my iphone. It is so easy. I don't have to do much and it does a lot. Just got the ipad so i can play more aps and still get calls.

mrjoint 05-19-2010 11:41 AM

I like iPhone because of the apps, I use lot of them. But android is the second market leaders when it comes to smart phones. iPhone has fallen back to 3rd place.

Plus AT&T 3G coverage is still not that great, so even though I am an iphone users, I would suggest you look into android. But again no one really know how the 4G that is coming out in June going to perform. If you are not in a hurry wait for that , test it then decide.

Chosen 05-19-2010 11:48 AM

I'm going to buy android phone soon.
Never thought about getting iPhone...

Bird 05-19-2010 11:49 AM

I love my android but I also love the CSS3 3d Transforms on the iphone...

candyflip 05-19-2010 11:51 AM

There are also apps for swapping out icons and icon sets, for ones that are more preferable to you.

CamsMaster 05-19-2010 11:59 AM

I stick to Iphone.

Same here. It will be pretty badass!!

But if Sprint had the Iphone, i would have it.

But i have a feeling when i go HTC, i will never look back.:2 cents:

candyflip 05-19-2010 12:10 PM

I'm on Sprint and a long time Apple user. I wouldn't touch the iPhone if it was on Sprint...not with the EVO about to be released. Even the leaked 4th Gen iPhone didn't have the specs the EVO has.

MarkTiarra 05-19-2010 12:21 PM

HTC Hero runs great! I had to download a task killer so I could not have all the background garbage and extra proggies running, though. Without that, it runs slow because it likes to have 40 things going at once.

UnUnited 05-19-2010 12:35 PM

I've gotten rid of my 2 iPhones and switched to a Motorola Droid in the US and a Motorola Milestone in Canada ( same phone , one's gsm so different name ), The iPhone is like a fisher price toy compared to the Droid. The google navigation is one of the easiest GPS i've ever used , it's faster then the Iphone and the browser kills the iPhone's. It's like a mini laptop . Touch screens are a fad , they suck , the slide out keyboard is the only way to go.

Sid70 05-19-2010 01:14 PM

Anybody noticed the difference how the touch interface works more smoothly in Iphone then Android or its me only?

mgtarheels 05-19-2010 01:17 PM

Ive a Motorola Droid and am happy with it.
