If you could retire today - What would be your plans?

Would you still be involved in creating new investments part time? Travel full time?
Spend all your time with your Kids? Spouse?
Move to a new place?

I personally have no idea. I don't think I would move because I have my closest friends and my family near.

I would be bored off my ass for sure. Especially since I've been working my ass off since I was 15.

Lets hear your Retirement Plans.

MaDalton 05-19-2010 02:22 PM

buy a house with a big barn, get a few classic rally cars, hire a mechanic and drive classic rallies

Barefootsies 05-19-2010 02:24 PM

I will never fully retire.

However, I would like more free time to travel the world.

Another question could be who has retirement plans.... I'm willing to bet that the vast majority of people here for whom adult is their only source of income never put a big bulk/if any of their monthly income away for retirement. So for those people, they will never be able to retire....

Completely agree.

However, that requires them actually being a 'business' to begin with.

Here is something that would make me happy:

Start a drug treatment center where the otherwise brilliant addicts get what is essentially a scholarship.

After they go through treatment and are ready to focus on becoming productive citizens I'll provide them with the seed money they need to start a viable business and mentor them. For this, the center would get an equity position and the profits would be used to expand the program.

I'd then follow their progress in both business and in life.

That may sound like work to some but to me it'd be fun.

dropped9 05-19-2010 02:29 PM

I would buy a houseboat, with satilite net and live on a lake somewhere playing the market.

Thanks!

My inspiration comes from the many amazing people I used to get fucked up with. Executives, doctors, lawyers, politicos ... people that threw it all away to drugs. Once they got the inner-strength to release themselves from their demons they quickly discovered that the world had shut them out.

Even the smartest people will make a really dumb decision a few times in their lives. If they actually learn from their mistakes, then I feel a few bad ones shouldn't follow them for life.

That is so true,

How many times do you see Cancer Doctors, or Heart Doctors standing outside under the No Smoking sign at hospitals smoking. I see Doctors smoking a lot. I never really understood that.

If you are smart enough to be a Doctor, can't you stop that habit after seeing so many people die in front of you.

if i could retire and afford to stay retired at the life i live now i would spend 1/2 time in my house in Utah and the other 1/2 in my house in Fl. and travel here and there.

I would get a job at one of the local ski resorts in the winter just for the fun of teaching skiing

By retirement I mean not having to work for money again. Stopping "work" that I enjoy, never.

Sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take siesta with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos

So true, that is awesome.
We have a lake house we go up to a couple times a year, the water used to be up to our backyard but they are claiming some dam damage and it won't be fixed for a couple of years, supposedly. Oh well.

Makes for a great place to ride my dirt bikes.

I'd move to California and start me a minor publishing house, get some connections in place and try to become a promoter / producer.

To look for talented and charismatic musicians / bands or even novelists / screenwriters with edgy movie concepts and try to make something happen.

I have always admired people like Saul Zaentz, David Geffen, Jerry Wexler, Ahmed Ertegun .

Of course before that I'd probably realize the list of things I always wanted to do, like visiting all major movie festivals, make a cadillac road trip from coast to coast, put together a band and go on tour etc.

Does the water get choppy in the afternoons at all?
Does your sewer and everything else work like a House Boat? You have to fill all your drinking water tanks and all that good stuff.

What's the famous saying? Something like the cobblers children have no shoes...

I think that as humans we are much better at giving great advice than taking it.

No the water is actually as calm as glass in the evening only choppy when the speed boats fly by during the day...

the toilets work just like a house boat you have to have a honey wagon come pump them out about once every 2 weeks.

the water is pulled from about 100' deep and then ran thru a purifier so no filling tanks needed....

NetHorse 05-19-2010 03:12 PM

Well I'm way too young to retire, but if I had the money to invest I'd open up my own restaurant / lounge. I'd also start a tuner shop that builds/tunes high-end exotics, (you know, 1000hp Lambos, Porsches, Ferraris, etc.. :)).

Nope, like I said, I can't even take a day off. I can, I just don't know what I would do.
I'm weird like that, I have to come to my office and be around all my employees. I also run all my other business's out of my office. I just love getting up and going to work. :Oh crap

No, you're retiring.

My Plan B is to get photos of you with hookers and a table full of coke in a hotel room and exposing you to the world!

Oh wait, that's called an industry show.

I need Plan C.
