They claimed the ticket was a misprint, even though it showed the woman won. I think a jury will rule for the woman.

Thats just garbage. The only "misprint" that took place was not in control or evident in ANY WAY to the players. Therefore, they will be made to pay. If they do not, it's just outright theft.

I mean watch the video, it's not the numbers that the player reveals that is misprinted (it's clearly a 1 and it clearly matches the other 1 and it even says $500,000 under it). So if their machine didnt log the serial number of that card as a winner, it's 100% their own problem and they need to eat it and get it over with.

it would be interesting to know the dynamics behind how they print/record them because as the reporter mentioned , how many real winners were misprinted as losers and the lottery just rakes in the cash.

Well, they claim the first "1" is supposed to be a "13" and each number is printed in the actual numeric word beneath.. there it shows "THIR". (here)

But then again, here's another case from 2005 - basically the same with a 250k prize.

Lottery = tax on the stupid, and this case is further evidence of that. The state can and will do whatever to siphon your money, including tell you a winning ticket isn't a winning ticket. After all, the news story brought up a good argument - what about misprints going the other way, ones that look like losers but are "misprints" and are in fact winners? How many of those would be cashed? 0...none of them. So that argument to not pay someone on a winning ticket is horseshit because they're gaining every penny possible from the reverse situation, which would happen just as much if misprints are truly naturally-occurring accidents.

This story really bothered me, I cant even imagine the crushing feeling you would get when they said it was a misprint and the couple got nothing except a trip to Tallahassee at their own expense :( :(

So long as the ticket she had isn't a counterfeit, she should get paid plus all legal fees.
